New brakes and rotors why are they smoking?
New front pads and rotors installed less than a month ago, took the car back cause the brakes seemed spongy. Mechanic said he fixed the problem still, but they are still not correct.
Went out that night and went down the quarter mile (twice), braked hard and they started smoking bad! WTF is this normal? Braking time sucks now i have to brake twice as hard. The other car already turned around i was still braking - it feels as if it has no stopping power. What to do?

i got alot of smoke from one of my cars just a few days ago, but only in the first 2 stops during the bedding in process, i imagined that it was just the film crap on the rotors burning off. and yeah the braking sucked those first few stops but thats just how it works, now everythigns all bedded and they feel great. well as great as a saturn can and im using stock pads and cheap autozone rotors, but its on a saturn tho, i use much better brands on my maxs/shos.
check ur slider pins, my 4th gen froze up and the braking performance suffered greatly

I had frozen calipers and my front rotors were grooved not too long ago so i know the feeling. Just double check everything. Check you calipers to see if they are working, and then take a look at your rotors to make sure there is a layer of brake pad material on the entire surface of the rotor. Otherwise, take it to another shop and have them bleed your brakes again.

i had someone replace my pads when i first got my car and the mounted the pads wrong and when i replaced them they were worn crooked somewhat. and my brother had told me that they were smoking regularly when he saw me drive by. my guess is check the pads to make sure they are correctly mounted and not lopsided or leaning or anything. im not sure how this is possible but it happened to my car.

The only one that smokes under hard stops is the passenger front. After the hard braking the stopping power sux, it feels like there is none. The pedal still goes to the floor to stop.
The fluid is new, the brakes have been bled - i watched them do it. As far as what brand they are - idk, i guess generic rotors and pads. I have the invoice but it does not specify what brand they are.
When it is light outside i will examine the fronts and see if they are seated correctly, and everything is correct..........

They shouldn't smoke. Did you clean off the oil with brake parts cleaner or soapy water before installing the new rotors?

Did u check and see if around the pistons on the caliper are leaking ive sen that happen before and it does cause problem with braking.

They should never smoke even when you first install them new. If they are smoking, that means your brakes are definitely binding. Make sure to check your caliper pistons in case any of them are frozen, then check the brake pins to make sure that they move freely and aren't seized in the mounting bracket.
