P0335 P1335 codes after hard start

My starter would do the "Wheee" while starting for a good month. So, yesterday it took about 6 times to start, keep in mind it was very cold. it sounded very weird, like the starter was spinning but not catching. But, it eventually started and then threw up the codes P0335 P1335. These are both the crankshaft position sensors (REF, POS.)

Today, I change the starter and it started up fine. Car ran great, nothing changed. I went to go reset the CEL, and it refused to erase the codes. The CEL is still on after resetting it.

Have these codes come up together on someone else? Did the weak starter motor cause the codes to come up? If my sensors were bad, the car wouldn't start at all right ?

You probably still need those sensors. I know that a bad crank sensor will definitely cause hard-starts. maybe the car is only starting up right now becuase you have a brand new starter in there.

Slow or irregular starting speeds can trip a CKPS REF code, but it shouldn't with POS.

It's possible they're failing, or the connections are bad, etc. That would also explain the hard starting you're having.

i had those codes when my battery wasn't in good shape and the car started hard. I reset the codes and they haven't come back (took care of the battery too).

Yeah, just an update. I cleared the codes. The car starts fine now, and the codes haven't come back. Hopefully, it stays that way. If they do come back, I guess I will change/clean them.
