cluch break in

Okay so what's the deal with breaking in clutches, i was reading an old thread on hear about breaking them in and it seemed everyone had a different theory on it.

I just got a new clutch put on my car and so far i have 50 miles on it and i'm trying to baby it but it's been hard (it's so hard to be gentle when you've got a riced out mazda 6 reving on you)

but i was wondering how long should i be slow, if at all. and i've also heard it's not bad to go to WOT if you just start slow, is that true? and also how bad is it for the clutch to be a little harsh on it a couple times during break in (like i was tonight aginst that mazda )

WOT is no problem if it's already engaged.

You don't want to be speed shifting with it, launching on it, etc.

You don't have to break it in, it'll just likely wear more evenly if you do.

It varies by personal preference, most clutches I've seen say 500 miles city driving, obviously taking a long highway trip won't do a damn thing to help; you would need a few hundred miles of actually using the clutch relatively often.

i was told about 500 gear changing miles, like in traffic, not going above 3k or so, and slipping the clutch a little bit, but ive seen others fill it with oil and do a launch right then and there, lol. just take it easy for a bit and you should be ok i would think

You should never beat on your new clutch and break it in properly regardless of your temptation. My friend did that right after a clutch change and about 4 months later his new exedy clutch took a poop. For the time and money it isn't worth taking the risk. And if you aren't sure baby it until 1k miles.

Reset trip odometer, drive in the closest city with stop lights, go easy for about 500 miles. For me, that means circling about a 4-5 block area for about a day. I only have smaller towns near me. It gets boring very fast, but if you do it this way, you will be fine.

Could be 2 things. 1) Was never installed correctly or 2) A defective clutch. They come with 1 year 12k mile warranty.

As far as ACT goes I've heard they are a bit harsh on the clutch pedal.

1 full gas tank of city stop-and-go driving.
Or in my situation where I'm on the highway a lot and do over 20,000miles/yr, I went for 1 oil change of easy driving, 3000+ miles in a few weeks.

And then I went hunting... Heehee. Which was pointless cuz even though it hooked up better, my stock touring tires on steelies spun and chirp so bad that it was pointless.

Outdated info... did u even look at the date that was posted?! 08-29-2008 Info no longer current. j/k.
Think of it this way... the more times this gets asks, the more threads there'll be, the more likely someone will see this type of topic, and the less likely it'll be asked again.
