clunk sound when put in reverse gear

this is for the automatic tranny. when i put shift from park to reverse, i would hear a clunk sound. i don't get this sound when in other gears. also, when i put it from drive to reverse, there is no sound either. just from park to reverse. what could this be? i've been having this sound for awhile, just can't figure out what it is.

You parking on a slight hill? If so your tranny is probably resting on the park pin. Once you move the shifter it will sort of pop off the pin with a bit of a clunk.

That sound like what's going on? Otherwise check your motor mounts.

+1 on the hill. Next time use your e-brake so it doesn't sit on the tranny. Or park not on a hill.

mounts will most likely be the cause

I agree with the hill park and using the e-brake. I always use my e-brake even on flat.

no, i didn't park on a hill. just my driveway. the mounts and axles are all changed within this year.

When you put the car in P and then shut it off...does it roll back or forward even the slightest bit? If so, it's resting on the park pin. Yes...even if it rolls 3 inches either way it'll get to the pin.

This is normal.
