LED Help and tips

Ok i have read about doing LED for my cluster and etc. I didnt get any answers that i need. I know i need the following :

-3 or 5mm LED bulbs
-470ohm Resistor
-Breadboard
-soldering iron

My question for this thread is how do i install this.

can someone draw me a diagram of how it work?
I believe i search google and they said from the power line the resistor goes first and then the led bulb . Can some link me something or some pics. Thanks Mike
