DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT!!!!!BUY AFTERMARKET UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS!!!!!!!!
So i after i got the pulley, had to get new belts....got it installed..it ran....no gains whatsoever. just metal and shiny. it made my tensioner go bad. replaced the tensioner... 3 days ago i start the car it starts sounding funky....like when u clip a baseball card to the back of ur bicycle. Frustrated as can be "1 injector went bad last week..." I try looking to see whats wrong with it.......lift the car up....take the wheel off....the shields...and i see that my MotherF*****G pulley is cracked! so i ask for advice on what to do....only thing i can do really is replace it. So i found my oem one and got a belt for it....loosened up the idler pulley...turned the tensioner..... finally got 1 belt off.....then after struggling to get teh underdrive pulley bolt off....i got someone to come with an airgun to take it off.....the freaking pulley just fell off! On a worse note...the freaking center part of the pulley is jammed onto my crankshaft....and i cant get it off now...i tried to take a visegrip and then screwdriver behind it to pry it off....didnt work...feels almost as if its welded togehter...no play at all.....i dont know what to do anymore im soo FRUSTRATED!!!
Here is a picture of the pulley....

Ouch!!! That sucks. You could try a really micro lubricant to get the middle off.
Who made this one?

I am curious, what exactly is a harmonic balancer and how is it integrated into the stock pulley? Are there any serious adverse effects on the engine from not having a harmonic balancer?

if your motor aint blue printed and balanced i would have to say so...
Every time the cylinders fire, torque is imparted to the crankshaft. The crankshaft deflects under this torque, which sets up vibrations when the torque is released. At certain engine speeds the torques imparted by the cylinders are in synch with the vibrations in the crankshaft, which results in a phenomenon called resonance. This resonance causes stress beyond what the crankshaft can withstand, resulting in crankshaft failure.
To prevent this vibration, a harmonic balancer is attached to the front part of the crankshaft. The damper is composed of two elements: a mass and an energy dissipating element. The mass resists the acceleration of the vibration and the energy dissipating (rubber/clutch/fluid) element absorbs the vibrations.

I BELIEVE THE OEM ONE SAYS THAT IT REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE RUBBER ON THE PULLEY. THE AFTERMARKET ONES DONT....
i just realized that was all in caps lol. sorry i don wna retype it.
but...im gonna figure it out when i get the chance...for now im driving my bucket 4th gen lol
also..for those who say theyve had the pulley...was there a gain? doubt its a noticable one...thats it for now..gonna post up with updates 2m.

I would try to hammering on the chuck with a dead blow hammer. The non marking type and see if you can get it to virbate lose. Otherwise you may have to drop the motor to ge it lose.

I dont care how many people say theirs have not failed. I have seen enough of threads about these failing and breaking to never ever bother buying one for what tiny gain they provide. The lightweight flywheel will be plenty fine for me.

Was it installed correctly? Did you put a new crankshaft oil seal and the correct sized belts upon installation? I've read that you can use a gear puller to remove a crank pulley.

I have the UR LIGHTWEIGHT Crank Pulley.. NOT the underdrive. I got it simply because I was installing the MEVI, and thought that the pulley would make up for the slight loss in mid-range power that I was going to suffer with the MEVI. I was NOT impressed. I did not notice ANY sort of gain with it, although I havent had any problems with it either. I definately wouldnt go recommending them if you are looking for an actual gain! Now I'm crossing my fingers!
