WHat is reasonable for these repairs?
I tried driving the Maxy today. Couldn't make it around the corner.
At any rate here's what's needed:
CV boots inner and outer, both on front , parts around $40+ per.
CV axles, was quoted $800 new. Reman prolly cheaper, say around $200? Dealer wants $330 labor for each side.
And now, my transmission.
Not sure exactly what the problem is. It seems the throw-out bearing wouldn't engage this morning. Can the bearing just be replaced? Would that solve my problem?
How much would an entire clutch job run? Re-build/replace tranny?

well this all depends on where you are but to have reman axles installed should run 300~400 at most at a good shop, the clutch ...well probably around 700~1000 . once again it depends on where you are. Dealerships are EXPENSIVE and there are plenty of good shops around. you might have to do a little research to find them but its worth it.
my suggestion to people looking for a good shop is find one that pays its techs on a salary basis if possible.these shops and techs seem to be a little more interested in doing it right rather than rushing through the job to get to the next one.
I am not saying that flat rate shops are ALL bad however the tendancy is to get the next one in and sell unnessecary repairs to make more money.
or do it your self, it can be very rewarding to learn how to fix your own vehical...if you have the time and of course another daily driver.

Axles are pretty easy to replace. Figure a shop will get upwards of $60/hr and will most likely bill you at least 2 hrs plus shop supplies, ect. If they go by book time, it will be higher. If you're handy, you can replace them yourself.

These are expensive (IMO) repairs if you live in the NY metro area. I paid $375 to replace each axel with rebuilt parts. It sounds like you have a manual transmission. Don't know anything about its repair cost. My AT cost quite a bit to rebuild.

New advanced auto axles are $80, no core.
OEM clutch is about $200. If you really need one stick with OEM and get the 5th gen setup. There would be no point in replacing 1 part when youre that far inside.

Man it sounds like these clutches are a pain. I can do the clutch in my mustang in about an hour.... I will be doing my own repairs in the maxima as they come along. I learned alot over the years about RWD cars/mustangs in general. I say DIY mang
