Headlight output...

I was just wondering what headlights you guys are using. I've got a '96 GLE w/ some Noyka bulbs (i think?) installed at the moment. I have VERY poor light output...to the point where I use my brights all the time (and even they suck). I don't remember ever having good light output. I 'm in desperate need of suggestions...possibly a budget way to upgrade output. Also, I looked to see if there was a way to adjust my headlights, but I didn't see anything...so if there is, let me know.

I tried searching, but there was way to many results...and I know how EAGER you guys are to help...you always have been. All help is GREATLY appreciated.

i had the same problem with my 99 gle. I replaced the headlights and got some silverstar bulbs off of ebay, it cost me about 150 all together. Or you could wet sand your headlights to save some money also

On my 96 Maxima I am using 9007 Xtravisions. They're better than 9004's, but still no HID. I'd suggest you do the 9004 to 9007 swap, and see how you like it. That is the 'budget' way to improve output, but not by much.

As for aiming, there are two black bolts that adjust the lights. The ones closer to the corner lights are up/down and the one toward the grille are right/left. I believe they are 10mm in size.

Silverstars are great in good conditions, but when it's wet, they are terrible. That's my experience and many others. Search and you will see.

Your problem is the 96 headlight. The cross hatched pattern kills the light output especially if the lights are oem old. I would try to get 97-99 headlghts since they have a clear lens and also do a 9007 conversion. If you can't get 97-99 headlights try and do the 9007 conversion to see if that helps.

Man I have the 97 lights AND 9007 bulbs and it STILL sucks. I dont believe in buying expensive bulbs anymore because they just end up burning out. I have decently clean grounds in the major areas so I dont know what the deal is...maybe this set up is just lame. I also have to question whether doing the AE mod killed any output.

I don't think the AE mod affects the output...

SHAMELESS PLUG:

I have the perfect solution for you.

Cefiros with a TL projector retrofit. Put in your favorite D2S kit, and you will be in love!

Guaranteed that you will like the beam pattern and second to none in output with 4300k bulbs.

thought i was gonna go the cefiro route but unfortunately I wasn't prepared to live with myself after hacking up the front, stuffing weather stripping in the cracks and duct taping down my grille to make them work. no thanks. Maybe projectors in some stock housings though...when I hit the lottery.

thanks for the suggestions guys...I think I'll try the 9007 conversion sometime this week hopefully. I'll be getting a new car early next year...and I'm really looking forward to having good headlights. The maxima won't be getting sold tho

My headlight setup?

First it was stock bulbs in stock housings....it was alright.

I did the brighter clear corner mod just for looks, that was nice and it threw a lot of light off to the sides.

I then AE'ed the housings because I like the look. Unfortunately that focused the light a lot and I lost some of my beam pattern.

I then got a cheap HID kit running 6000K bulbs.

Worst mistake ever. Glare all over even with the AE'd housings. Definitely saving up for some projectors.
