window tints or Y-pipe?

hey guys,

I'm unsure what to do next, I love the look of window tints, and yet love the sound of a Y-pipe. I was thinking of something around 50%-30% tint. I really don't have a ton of money to spend since i have to replace my axels pretty soon. What do you guys think? and maybe if you can give me some prices i should expect? thanks

Tints.

And you can always pick up a Y pipe for a decent price later on out of the classifieds.

I would go with the ypipe, just simply for performance. It took me awhile to get one, but been my best mod yet. Depends on price, you could go with budget or warpspeed. I went with warpspeed 199 with free shipping. Budget is different because they are in Canada. I'm not sure what the exchange rate is now. Both are good quality.

i see that your in long island. There are tons of shops in NY area taht will do all around tints for like $150. To me thats not expensive considering i paid $125 for just the back window which is the most important one of all since its really hard to do yourself in one piece. The sides you can do yoruself by cheating by taking off the window yourself. As far as getting a used y-pipe from the classifiedsm i agree, but since your in long island, you're probably seeing a lot of salt during winter. Just make sure the one that you pick up used or new is the stainless steel one. And if it is used, make sure that its still pretty new.

Just think about what you want more, a lil more power, or better looks. IMO, i'd go with tints. No one else but you is going to know that you have a y-pipe. Its not as loud as an exhaust where people can hear a difference. At least i can't with just changing a y-pipe and everything else is stock..

that's exactly what I'd like to spend. I was thinking that maybe in a couple months I'll get a whole do a full exhaust. Does the price of tints go up if the tints are darker? (sorry for sounding like a n00b but i have no idea about this ) thanks for the advice, I appreciate it .

I agree 95% the only thing is If you are doing your mods for someone else than maybe you should not do them.... I would go with the y pipe if you are looking for GO and ting if for SHOW just my .02 cents

I think the real question is:

Is your emissions inspection coming up soon (if you have one)

agreed...although my car didn't throw a code after installing a y-pipe and i'm pretty sure it's not suppose to. but if you have someone sticking the tester up the exhaust to check for the emissions, might want to hold off until you can find a "GOOD" shop for the inspection.

No, price of tint does not go up on how dark it is. But it does go up from the quality of tint. The $150 all around is probably not great tint. It might dis-color within a year or two to a slightly different shade. Only time yo ucan tell is when you roll your window down a little bit, and throw the back window you see the tint part that is covered usually by the door. But hopefully its not that bad that basically you lose the tint color and turns all purple and makes your car look like ***. but generally shops have decent tint since they buy them in huge rolls and they still want word of mouth as advertising.

Well, technically all you have to do is warm up the car before you get your emissions tested, I was jk.

But seriously, it would depend on your goals and really where you live. If it's really hot where you live, get your car tinted. BTW people, PLEASE stop calling it "tints," you sound like a bunch of ricer boys.

If you want a little more power, get the Y-pipe.

What would you like me to call it? "Dark glass!!!!"?

Obviously I am going to fix my axels first, my CV boot/axel is just about shot, getting repaired this weekend. But after that I'm "tinting the windows" not because it's "hot" where I live, because I think it makes the car look nicer. The y-pipe will simply have to come after when I have more money coming into my wallet so I can do the full exhaust.

if you get your car tinted 50% looks like nothing i would say go with 30%-20% depending on state laws and how dark you want them to be....in md i only paid 100 for mine.....

In my state, anything below 70% is illegal. I've gotten out of 3 tint tickets with my last maxima because my uncle is a cop, I'm hoping that excuse will still work this time

id say go with tints, "dark glass", gives u like 50+ hp lol, but no seriously if u get tints id go like 15% or 20%, i mean u said anythin below 70% is illegal, not like the fine changes dependin on ure tint, honestly im goin thru the same decision now too, but i think im goin for the y pipe, id rather get the power gain + i cant pay for any fines if i go with tints lol, i live in nj so any tint is illegal and i dont have any1 i no thas a cop, so like the other guys said its wat u like, more power or better looks

There are no such thing as "Tints" - meaning plural.

You only tint your car once, they do all the windows at once.

so when the cops ticket reads "remove tints or change them to legal percentage" it cant be changed because it's already been done once?

obviously i understand what you mean, if you want to go all technical and call it ricer, go ahead..but my neighbor who drives a bmw 740i called them tints as well..and his car obviously isn't rice.

Oh trust me, BMWs can be riced out, but that's another matter.

No, "it's" is a contraction of two words, "it" and "is".
clearly he made a typo whereas you, and others, are consistently making a grammatical error.

I would get the y-pipe first.

I am having the exact same problem deciding between TINT and a y-pipe. Around here, a 3M tint job is about $230, and then they charge $280 for the tint that supposedly has no metal flakes in it, which is supposed to not interfere with XM(which I have).

Any input on if regular tint does/doesn't in fact affect XM signals?(Not trying to hijack your thread, sorry!)

I personally would go 5% on the back three, then 20 on the front two b/c it gets very hot here. 50% is the legal limit up front, and you can go as dark as you want behind the driver.

I am 90% sure tint is going to be my choice, so that would be my recommendation for you as well.

Let us know what you end up deciding on!

No point in getting the ypipe with broken axels. Fix them first, have fun later.

Error: Remove a and add an "s" after error

cry me a river, I'm 17 and i've had paid my own way through insurance/gas/and for the price of the car. And look at that, I'm asking what to mod next.

I might as well chime in with my grammatical two cents in saying that Axel is a Scandinavian given name derived from Absalom, whereas axle is a shaft that transfers rotary motion from a vehicle's transmission to its wheels. Of course if I spent the time *****ing about every brake/break, fuel/feul, rotor/roter, etc.. I'd have no free time.

Do you really want to get into a grammar war here? I don't really think you do.

Next time you attempt to correct someones grammar, at least make it into a complete sentence.

Also we can not tell you how to mod your car. Ask yourself what you want your car to be. If you want it to look great and don't care how fast it is, then start with tinting the windows. If you want to make the Maxima quicker, then go with the Y pipe.

Of course, if you're going to that length, an axle transfers power from a diff to the wheels, not a transmission (note that we do not have transmissions).
