Warpspeed Y-Pipe Install (pics)
I installed the Warpspeed Y-Pipe today in my driveway. It is a nice piece and im happy with it. It came with all hardware that you need, and even comes with a nice hanger as well. Took me about 1 hour using hand tools.
Things you will need:
floor jack
jackstands
1/2" ratchet
14mm deep impact socket
14mm shallow impact socket
12mm impact socket
22mm wrench
penetrating oil
1/2" swivel
1/2" impact extention
here is the hanger that came with the y pipe it uses factory mounting points and works very well. it also came with two new cat to y pipe bolts and nuts and gasket.
here is where the rear downpipe meets the manifold. take out the O2 sensor to give a little more room. the swivel must be used back here at least on two of these nuts. i used the short socket for one and the long one for the other.
Theres no need to show the front it looks just like the rear but is easier to do. same thing...remove 02 sensor and loosen the 3 nuts. Once you take both O2 sensors out and the 6 nuts for the headers you just have to undo the cat to y pipe bolts. my exhaust is new so this wasnt a problem for me but others might have trouble with rust. After everything is unbolted there are still two 12mm bolts holding the y pipe up...remove these and drop the pipe out.
Putting the aftermarket pipe is much easier you have more room to work with. install the crush gaskets and get the downpipes on the studs and hand tighten all 6 nuts. put the new gasket for the cat and hand tighted the two bolts. than install the new hanger and tighten it down. tighten down the 6 nuts but dont crank them down or they will snap. than tighten the y pipe to the cat and you done. start it up and check for leaks.
im ok with the way mine sounds i have a 2.5" test pipe and a 2.5" crush bent cat back to a 5.5 gen muffler. the added power is nice too. thanks for reading and im sure i forgot something but i hope some people will chime in. THANKS

chirp2nd- Yeah the y pipe gave it a nice little boost up top. like on a stock VQ30 it makes peak hp and than falls off until redline, this made it feel like the power stays all the way pretty much. My boys 07 SI cant hang anymore....

how hard were your bolts to get off? I have a y pipe on the way and am not looking forward to how hard they are going to be to get off. I had to cut my b pipe to muffler bolts off because they wouldn't move even after several days of hitting them with pb blaster and a 600 ft/lb impact wrench

This has always been a NY car so the rust was there you know. i did it all by hand (no air). i just did my cat back so the cat to Y two bolts were still new, no problem there. all three nuts on the front downpipe came off fairly easily. and one on the back came out with the stud but thats no big deal.
i had to run to the store before i started even though i wanted the car to be cool, the water temp guage just got to the middle when i got back. i actually think that made a difference..in a good way. like how a torch works kinda.
ive been getting PMs from people, i just bought the y pipe from ebay it was $200 shipped with everything you need.
Yeah cattman headers FTW, but the price and install FTMFL. agreed on a 3.5 theyre a must have. when i do the swap they will be going on while the motor is out......if my money is right.

I just installed my warpspeed y-pipe saturday. Excellent craftsmanship, fit perfect. I also got their cat (magnaflow), and have an oem type Bosal b-pipe and muffler. Sounds great, no buzz, quiet but with a muffled growl. I especially like the sound letting off the gas to shift.

(i know this thread is dated, i bumped it as a favor. save it pmohr! lol)

The gaskets at an auto parts store will be called exhaust flange gaskets. At all of the stores I've gotten them from, anyway.

There's more of a price difference than you mentioned.
And there's not much of a difference, short of build quality, materials, design, and of course supporting one of the few people that design and produce products solely for the Maxima.

You realize that the post you quoted is concerning headers, not a Y, correct?

There are several dynos of cars with nothing but a Y.
Your emissions questions will be answered as well. It shouldn't be a problem.
