Knock Sensor SUCCESS!!
A big Thank you to all who helped me diagnose and replace my KS on my cali 99 GLE. (Well, my mechanic did the work, but you gave me the guidance).
I just completed a road trip and averaged around 27 MPG instead of the 17MPG I was getting the last few tanks.
I just had the outside claybared and replaced the leather. All I have left to do is get a few dimples PDR'ed and this should last me another 5 years at least!
Thanks again!

wow 27MPG!... jesus... How did u do that? Also, Did u calculate that right, because I can't see our cars getting that good like they did when they were new unless u have like a new engine and tranni.

Before the pissing contest starts, I'll just throw in my 33MPG w/ a 4AT.

if my minivan can get 18mpg city, the max can do 30+ highway (which my other minivan does)
no clue what MPG my max gets though, I think I've put in 2 tanks of gas since I got it in june.

I think about $250 for the labor. Since it is a cali-spec they had to take the manifold apart. I got the parts off of eBay and Courtesy Nissan for less than a hundred. Considerably less than the 800-900 the 2 mechanics I got quotes from.
BTW, the 27 MPG was almost all highway driving at 65 MPH with my tires at the proper pressure. I filled the tank before a road trip, drove 100 miles and had to take a leak so I filled up again to see how much gas I used.
I hear that it takes a few tanks for the sensor to adjust, so I'm hoping it improves even more. Can anyone confirm this adjustment period?

I just read a recent MPG thread and was amazed to see others with your MPG. What other things could I do to improve MPG? I think I was driving fairly conservativly during this trip.
