License Plate Lights, Sunroof Motor

Hi everyone,

I tried to replace my license plate lights because both burned out, but all the screws were rusty and stripped when I tried to take them out. So I took out the whole assembly that holds the lights and it was so rusted that it just fell apart. Is there a cheap OEM replacement because I'm sure the Nissan dealer will want a ridiculous amount for that piece of metal. Just got pulled over yesterday and searched because of those damn lights so I wanna get them fixed asap.

Also, my sunroof works perfectly except when it gets to the maximum level of being open (both upwards and backwards) the motor keeps going like its trying to push it further up or back. It used to stop when it was open to the max, is there a quick fix for this?

You would be surprised how cheap the nissan dealer is. I suggest you give them a call.

Had the same issue with the plate lights. Called the dealer and was quoted something obscene, think in the $100cdn range. After I stopped laughing I told him that I'd pass. Unfortunately that thing is way down on the list of repairs, but ultimately I'll try to hit a boneyard for a template and then cobble something sturdier together.

just checked nissanparts.org If it's the "license plate bracket" (looks right when compared to FAST) then it's only $36.56

enter your year. enter "license". click on "license lamp" and click on "view illustration". It'll give you a blowout and you can choose the aprt you need.

I did this about 4 years ago, and all the parts from the dealer combined were only $83.

Bracket (#96252-40U00) $38
Lamp assembly (#26510-70T00) $38
Clip (#63848-01G00) $3 (I forget what this was for)
Tax $4

Since this bracket rusts out so easily, I wouldn't bother trying a junk yard. Sure you could probably make something, but is it really worth the time and effort for less than $100?

I'm new here to the forums, and just bought a 98GLE. I also have this same problem, which I guess is more of a nuisance than a problem. My sunroof does the same thing except it makes a loud squealing sound when the roof is in in the open or closed position with the motor still running. Have you found any solution to your problem?

I had that happen to me. Cop pulled us over just b/c of the plate lights and right away he started asking for drugs just b/c he caught my friend in my back seat months ago. He pulled us out of the car one by one to get us to give up something and he was threatening to bring the dogs in. Then after he wasted all of our time he gave me a warning to fix the lights. I hate pigs!!!!!!!!

go to autozone or some comparable auto parts store, they sell generic led license plate light assemblys for ~12 - 15 dollars tops. the unit bolts on where the plate is mounted to the bumper.

The only problem is if you don't keep at it, the cheap chrome frame will show rust.
