lost the oil dipstick

Sorry to make a whole thread about this,
but i've lost the engine oil dipstick and i want to make sure that it's okay for me to drive like that until i find a replacement.
I know that there's something about not taking out the disptick when draining or pouring the oil. I just wanna make sure it's okay.

uhh i'd get it replaced asap. but in the mean time if you could find something to plug it temporally that would be best. i had a friend who lost his oil cap to his 95 blazer, he used a ziploc bag and zip ties. it ran fine for what it was worth (about 50 bucks haha).

When to a nissan dealership to get my oil changed and they forgot to put my dipstick back in. I found that out like 3k miles later... and my engine bay was a bit oily but it wasn't super messy. You'll do fine until you get a replacement. But you should still get it asap.

How do you lose the dipstick? There's no reason for it to be removed unless you're checking the oil level.

Use a rubber plug. The PVC system depends on a closed engine crank case to work. Also, unfiltered air may be introduced.

Yeah id definately plug it with something. You could try a shoving a bolt in there with a big head so it wont get stuck.

I honestly don't know how the hell it got lost. Perhaps the last time the car was in the shop, they were checking the oil level......and forgot to put it back in. I wouldn't loose it.
