280 miles on a tank
I was trying to see my mpg so i filled up my tank with v-power gas at Shell. I Did 280 miles even tho i drive like 50% city and highway shouldn't it be a little more ? My tire pressure is good,spark plugs replaces , brakes are good, my car has no cell on but i think Im replace the Ks anyways. What you guys think ? is 280 bad or is it just me ? can Ks do some much difference on gas millage? Thx

Try cleaning your air filter or running with a higher octane gas. Or drive like a grandma Even I get over 300 mile to a full tank of gas and I do mostly city driving with a heavy foot!

I'm right there with you. I've had the car for 5 years and I've never exceeded 285 per tank unless I hit the highway. All of my maintenance is up to par and I only use premium. Trying to figure it out myself.

My last full tank i got 400 gallons on the dot, a little over 16 gallons. I just bought it with 120k miles, and only 1 O2 sensor has been replace in the life of the car, about 50k miles ago.
that was about 50% highway, and I accelerated hard almost every time I had the chance.

Wow, I used to get around 320miles to the tank then i ran some Lucas through and I have been hitting 430 miles to the tank but my driving is 80% highway and 20% street. None the less I still drive it hard at least once a day if not more and I never see my tank drain that fast, I do have a manual though so that might be the cause for seeing more mileage since i rarely shift over 3000 unless i want to drive it hard.

lucas=fuel cleaner......I can get close to 470 miles on a full tank only driving highway and doing about 70/75 mph. City i get roughly bout 290 miles. im not complaining since my other car only gets about 166 miles city but that is with alot of goodies on here plus she is a 86 924....so im happy with what i got!! the lucas works but you wont really see it till the next fill up.

I gt a 96 5spd. I fill up with plus (mid grade) it doesn't matter if I'm driving just city, just highway or a mix. I'll get a range of 400-450 miles. My knock sensor needs to be replaced and 2 oxygen sensors as well. I'll be taking care of all those tomorrow thankfully!

i used 2 get 320 to 350 with stock set up now have upgrades does not matter anymore love the power. new mas, o2s, hi flow cat, warpspeed y, megan racing cat back, and injen

i get between 320-340 per tank. i keep my mpg on a excel sheet and ive been steady at 21 mpg for the past yr. i do 50/50 city highway as well. and i dont drive like a granny either
my mpg when up after doing the KS and harness. then i replaced sparks and o2 sensors. went up slightly or not at all. and ive been using chevron techron every 2 oil changes. hint... use the techron before you plan on having an oil change because it will dirty your oil fast. empty gas tank. put techron in. fill it up. drive around. once you kill that tank of gas get an oil change.
i say something with your fuel injection system if you cant top 300 miles on a full tank.

Lucas is a Fuel Injector Cleaner. You can get a bottle of it at any car store, its usually next to the oil and antifreeze. You just dump it into the gas tank while you fill up and try to do it before a long trip to let it really clean out all the gunk and everything else that is killing the performance in your engine and you will definently see a difference in the pedal response and gas mileage afterwards. Just don't use it too often, just every once in a while when your mileage begins to drop and your driving stays the same, Its usually not a huge problem for me since i use premium all the time but i do it every half a year if needed.

Got around 370 on my last tank and I have a bad knock sensor and my EGR needs to be cleaned. Doing my EGR today and will be swapping out the knock sensor next weekend.
I'm not consistent as far as where I get my gas... Shell, Speedway, Thortons.. even the cheaper Swifty places. It's all close to the same miles per tank no matter where I fill up. I'm really looking forward to seeing how well my car does after I get a couple of things fixed. I should easily see 400+ with no problems.
Recent stuff done: Fuel filter, plugs, air filter, Lucas injector cleaner and a Seafoam treatment about four months back. I know most people on here knock Seafoam, but I've personally been using the stuff for years (started with my boat and went from there) and I think it works.

I get 400-500 miles per tank. I have a bad KS, bad o2 sensors (all), 160k on original plugs, never changed fuel filter since day 1, and i have a gas leak somewhere, so I could be getting even better range....
tho seriously its pretty useless to compare with other people because everyone has different trips, driving style, location, car condition, etc. Obv someone driving all city (like me) wont possibly get as good of gas milage to someone living in a less populated area and driving on what i would call a highway.
So to reply to the original post, yes ks can make a difference. And 280 may or may not be bad... it all depends on how u drive, where u drive, etc etc.
/end for whats ur gas milage part 194!

I don't think measuring your car MPG on only one tank of gas would give you a good indication of your gas mileage. I think 5 or 6 tanks would give you a more reliable gas mileage number.

that must be wrong.

96 5spd. Just did a road trip from Columbia, SC to Tallahassee FL. Averaged a little over 27MPG and that was averaging 85 to 90mph. Worked out to about 430 miles per tank. Even in city driving I get around 360 to 380 before I start getting concerned. I run regular unleaded, synthetic Blend for the oil, and full synthetic for the transmission. Also check on your air pressure. In my Xterra, changing the air pressure in the tires (going up for road trips) gives 2 or maybe 3MPG.

i hate you guys..lol i get 220-240 per tank 85% city and heavy foot..(im on 20's and have 400+ lbs of audio stuff in my car) and my car is up to par too..i might try the lucas stuff thou..

Here is a quick break down for you...
Driving Style:
Frequent 0-45 or so hard pulls from a light and 10mph over on all major highways. I definitely do not drive like a grand ma. My average peak RPM is about 3k on shifts.
BEFORE:
* Castrol GTX 5w-30 Motor Oil
* Nissan Oil Filter
* Nissan and for a little while K&N air filter
* IACV, TB cleaned regularly
* ATF never changed
* Coolant never changed
* Tire pressure 32psi
* 16" SE Rims
* Stock Exhaust
* No Fuel System Cleaner
* 93 Octane Fuel
* NGK Spark Plugs
Result: 270-280 miles per tank. I usually fill up between 15-16 gallons. So if you do the math, this equals roughly 17.5 mpg.
AFTER:
* AMSOIL 5w-30 Motor Oil
* Nissan Oil Filter
* Nissan Air Filter ONLY
* IACV, TB cleaned regularly/PCV Valve changed every 12k miles
* AMSOIL ATF
* Toyota OEM Coolant
* Tire pressure 32psi
* 16" SE Rims
* Custom Exhaust: SS AutoChrome Headers, Fed. Spec Y-Pipe, Magnaflow High-Flow Cat, Budget B-Pipe, OEM 4th Gen Muffler
* Chevron Techron 12gallon Fuel System Cleaner
* 93 Octane Fuel
* NGK Spark Plugs
Result: 320-330 miles per tank. I usually fill up between 15-16 gallons. So if you do the math, this equals roughly 20.6 mpg.
Make it as easy as possible for your car to work, and you'll see the improvements. I hear a hiss/raspiness from the front of my car when I accelerate but I've been reading that this is just a result of the headers. So even if I had an exhaust leak, I'm getting decent mileage. I am considering going down to 89 fuel this summer to see if I feel any difference in my car. But being the way I am, I probably won't. I baby my car regardless of how much it costs me. I am also considering the spacer kit...but I really don't feel comfortable drilling my EGR. That gave me the biggest issue when doing my headers and I want to avoid the EGR as much as possible. I think if I did that I'd be able to hit 350 miles with ease.
Also...I normally see this kind of mileage/quarter:
* Fill up 15-16 gallons
* Drive a total of 110 miles as I hit the 3/4 Full Mark
* Drive a total of 220 miles as I hit the 1/2 Full Mark
* Drive a total of 290 miles as I hit the 1/4 Full Mark
* Drive a total of 330 miles as I approach E but not on E yet (I never want to get stuck somewhere do to where I live so I never go past E).
I have seen my gas light flicker at around 340-350 miles on the tank.
