Anyone else's Starter get gunky after a about 6 months?
I find myself cleaning my Starter every six months due to the VEEEEEEEE sound after the engine starts.
I use White Lithium Grease. Maybe I need something diff. cuz this stuff gets sticky and attracts dirt.

i use the stuff that you scoop out with your hand not the spray. try using the stuff you get in a jar instead of the spray can. i usually will just stick my pointer finger in once and just spread it on top of the gear of the starter. It is pretty normal to have gunky stuff on your starter. i dont know about the whole veee thing. obviously it stops after you lube it correct?

Ive never used grease on the starter gear, and never had a problem, To me its pointless i see it only gunking up the bellhousing area. the most i would do is spray some teflon lube on the gear and forget about it.

This is similar to products that stop a squeaky accessory belt...just masks the problem. If you have to service the starter that often, you may find yourself in a parking lot on a rainy night with a car that wont start...because it never happens on a sunny day in your driveway

Thats not going to fix it. You need to really grease it. Fallow this sticky and click on the starter rebuild.

Spraying that on it is just going to mask the problem. Use a good grease like synthetic lithium soap based grease. It will fix the problem for much longer.

or you could buy a new one.
or you could just keep focking around with one that is giving you a sign saying "hey cheap-azz, i'm gonna go out one day, and i'm gonna make sure it strands your cheap-azz out in the middle of nowhere where there's no cell service and you have to walk 10 miles, uphill, through the snow/rain/103 degree sun, so you can call a wrecker service and pay $150 to have it towed home".
not to mention, that trucker that tries to give you a lift while you're walking that has a hairy back and thinks you have a real cute azz.

HaHaHa, you got a point there. My father rebuilds starters and never have we had to grease one that often after being installed, maybe once but then again never on some. Don't worry pretty soon that "VEEEEEEEEE" sound will go away but your car won't start either.
