New mod to new car. 6000k bi-xenon HID/3000k HID fogs
I figure it time for a new mod. Of course ever since I started using HID's in my volvo, I haven't gone back since. So it's only natural that I install these into the maxima.
What I got was a 6000k bi-xenon H4 kit (Cefiro housings use this opposed to 9004 the stock ones use). Along with this kit comes a nifty glare shield. It is suppose to help clean up the cutoff, but it has a notch in it so when the bulbs re-align, it allows light to pass to give you a high-beam.
I did run into an install problem. A very long time ago, I believe Ian install an upgraded headlight harness either to improve visibility, or to use higher wattage bulbs. This caused some unpredicatable behavior when I installed the lights the first time. The lows would turn on only about 20% of the time despite having the switch fully on. The high beam mode failed to work at all. So after closer inspection today, I discover that the harness appeared to either be grounding out, or some how caused enough of a voltage loss that the ballast would fail to ignite the bulbs. Jiggling the harness caused the relays to cycle.
So I removed the harness. I created a 9004/H4 adaptor using a 9004 and H4 pig tail. I used a voltmeter to determine high/low/common and wired accordingly. I reran the HID harness in place of the now removed headlight harness. Hooked everything up, and viola. Everything works perfect. I have lows, I have highs, and they come on everytime.
I went ahead and swapped the fogs with an H3 3000k kit. It looks pretty good, and gives the car a much classier look IMHO. I also replaced the city lights with an amber bulb, and found red bulbs for the rear side markers as Ian had them removed all together. I got to see the lights in action last night. They are significantly better, but it looks like I will have a problem with the reflector wanting to scatter the light. The only way to really fix that is likely to retrofit projectors in...maybe look at using 95/96 housing with the fluted glass (my volvo had flute glass, and the cut-off was perfect with no stray light), but I'm not sure if I want to do that or not. I've yet to re-aim the lights and will try to do so in the next day or so.
Anyway, behold:
Lights powering up..headlights start really blue, and the fogs actually start off green.
You can see the glare shield in action. Notice how the bottom of the reflector is dark.
Headlights are a brilliant, almost blue/purplish white, the fogs are a brilliant lemonade yellow.
Amber city light, and amber corner lantern.
Red Rear side markers. I like the effect it has on the turn signals:

It's not an H3c kit unfortunately. I get my off mydepots.com. Thier kits start from $80 and go up around $140 ish. I've bought 5 kits from them and all have been great, and reliable. My entire setup ran me about $280 shipped.

Yes, please post up some night shots. I have Cefiros w/4600k HIDs, and just ordered a H3C 3000k kit for my fogs. Unfortunately I won't be able to install the fog set until the weather backs off. I am dying to see how the setup looks at night.

I got some aiming to do. Though I remember hearing from Ian that the Cefiros are a bitch to get adjusted. My camera seems to white out the yellow a bit. I'll probably need to look at getting the H3c, but my regular place doesn't carry them it appears.

Sweet, Thanks for the pics mang! Looks good. The Cefiros are a tad trickier to aim than the standard Maxima lamps. I had to use washers to aim up/down on the bolts that bolt to the core support.

Warranty taken from the site:
Quote:
Q. What's the warranty period for these HID kits?
A. The ballasts and bulbs come with 14 months warranty from all factory defects. If any component fails within warranty period, we will replace the defective component free of charge.
This warranty specifically excludes defects resulting from misuse, abuse, neglect, alteration, modification, improper installation, unauthorized repairs, submersion, theft, vehicle crash, or by any other type of impact. Removal, installation, or reinstallation costs are not covered by this warranty. All bulbs are tested and burned in by the manufacturer prior to delivery. Burst / exploded HID bulbs are not covered by warranty.
It is the buyer's responsibility to incur all warranty and return shipping charges.
For warranty claims, the buyer has two options: 1) Return the defective part and pay $20 as the return shipping fee and we will send the buyer a new replacement once we receive the returned item; 2) For any single defective ballast or bulb, the buyer can pay $30 and we will send the buyer a new replacement immediately and the buyer do not need to return the defective part.
VVME LLC reserves the right to change the design of its products without any obligation to modify any previous product.

I like it. You need aiming, but you know that. Good job on the shield! Nice to see someone who didn't simply slap a kit in their headlights.

Nice work as always. Yeah, the Volvo had a great cut off to be in regular headlamp assemblies. Great work though and love the look of the Ambers and rear corner red bulbs. I like the effect too.

Do you have any night wall shots, so we can actually get a better picture or what your beam pattern actually looks like with the glare shields?

I do not know as I didn't make them...but they look like the E## shrouds. All I know is they are TL and have a clear lens. Got them from a guy on NYCMaximas.org for $462.

Another suggestion OP...get rid of the red clearance bulb in the tail lights. I think your car will look very nice then. Oh, and maybe take off the front plate. .
I dunno WA laws but NY ones are pretty strict and in my area I get away with tint, bright ass lights all around (LED's and HID's), and no front plate. Looking good though.
