ODBII reader says catalyst not ready
I have 95, maxi gle, its due smog check.
Just for the experiment I hooked up an obdII sensor to car and run some I/M tests. Everything comes good except one catalyst option. OBD reader indicate that catalyst not ready.
There is no MIL light, I had removed battery a while back and driven about 50 miles since putting battery back.
I know for 96+ maxima's there is a TSB which talks about smog inspection, I am wondering if a something similar exists for 95 california spec maxima.
Otherwise what can I do for "catalyst not ready"

To complete the drive cycles in order for the system to be ready, usually you need to have a couple cold starts (air temp and coolent temp within a few degrees) and have it warm fully up, spend a few minutes above 50mph, different stuff like that. Just take it back in a week and you should be fine. Good luck!

got p0136 code
Thanks for the reply guys.
I have driven this car about 100miles this week, cold starts everyday than on freeway. OBD still says catalytic converter not ready but now I got code p0136, rear O2 sensor.
Is it sensor or it is catalytic convert?

Are you sure it is a cali spec/ Because I know that the catalytic converter readiness check WILL NOT GO READY ON A '95 FED SPEC (OR '96 FED SPEC I30) It will ALWAYS read incomplete.
Ask me how I know this..........................
Just take it for the test, it will more than likely pass, if the tester tries to tell you it won't tell him to run it and to try anyways. This is what ended up happening on a '96 fed-I30 (Which FYI is different from a '96 maxima, ist is similiar to '95 fed-spec maxima in several emmisions regards ie: no evap purge control volume valve) I pulled my hair out for almst 2 months trying to get it to go ready, new o2's, different cat, IAT sensor (Which is only used by ecu for catalst srt), than one day a test guy said "Hey, even some '96's won't always go ready but they pass anyways because the state computer knows it's one of those cars" sure enough............

Missed this post, It is rear o2 sensor for sure (well, or wiring, lol), replace it, wait for the o2 and evaps to go ready (they are always last, more criteria), and if catalyst SRT still isn't ready take my above advice afterwards.

how can i determine which sensor is not ready? I've gone trhough emissions 5 times now with a 96 Maxima, and all have come back rejected. Tookit to the dealership, and they said the knock sensor was bad causing it to not be ready. I replaced the ks, but got rejected again. It's getting a little annoying now.
thanks guys

BEst thing is get the OBD2 reader. If you are really getting the knock code PO325 then do the bypass just for the smog test. It worked for me, i wouldn't recommend keeping it that way though. Just my $0.02

I agree with the above. You should just get an OBD-II reader. I had 4 codes when I took it to Autozone, and was going to try and fix all of the issues, but then a couple of weeks later I bought a reader, and it said I only had 2 codes. Have reset it for now and am waiting to see what shows back up.
