NWP Engineering Phenolic Thermal Intake Spacers - VQ30DE PROTOTYPE REVIEW

so haven't posted in the 4th gen thread in forever (i've been on other cars, off topic, or that "other" site) but here goes.

so on Feb. 9th i went out to Walstonburg, NC headed towards NWP Engineering headquarters in order to install and test the prototype intake spacers on my 96 SE. after a long afternoon of preliminary tests and install, the spacers were in and we started the dyno. dyno went well and i headed back to school with absolutely no problems.

now for driving impressions.

- i'd have to say that the butt dyno was telling me that the most noticeable thing was the low-end pull on the highway in 4th and 5th gear. going from 60-80mph is noticeably quicker. the actual dyno verifies this butt dyno impression with the tq gains from 3500-4300rpms.

- the next thing that i noticed was just the overall smoothness of acceleration increased. i originally thought this was just placebo effect, but after Aaron reported back to me about the dyno results i realized that the VQ did in fact smooth out. the HP curve especially, is much flatter across the board. this makes the already smooth VQ's acceleration at WOT silky smooth. it's a strange feeling because your sense of speed is almost decreased. gone is the jerky 2nd gear that reminds you that the pedal is to the floor. now my 2nd gear pulls feel slower due to the smoothness but one look at the speedo tells me otherwise.

- the last real change, besides the obvious drops in temp, was the sound of my intake. the only performance mod to my car is a Stillen Popcharger and before the spacers were put in when the car was at idle there would be a slightly noticeable sucking sound coming from the engine bay. needless to say, post spacer install the intake sucking sound has dramatically increased. it's very intimidating and almost like a brand new intake.

all in all i'm very happy to have been the guinea pig for this part. these spacers are very well made, out of a material that is highly durable and looks great. it's a mod that i would have purchased even if i hadn't been the prototype. i give it, and NWP Engineering my full recommendation.

i'm sure yall have a lot of questions, and as the first person to have the spacers on a VQ30 it's my responsibility to answer them to my full ability. so ask away.

"Testing was done on a 96 Nissan Maxima 5spd with only a JWT ECU Pop Charger" as stated in Aaron's thread...

i forgot about my mid-pipe since it's kind of inconsequential. but yeah, i used an after market midpipe from an ebay intake with the aforementioned Stillen Popcharger.

as for 5200rpm, honestly at that point i'm so focused on the road that it's the only thing i'm paying attention to. so basically it's not a change that dramatically stood out. it's comparable.
