I just bought a new antenna mast to replace my broken one for my 99 Maxima (left radio on in car wash). Anyone know how to remove the old one? I removed the chrome nut and that black molding, but cant seem to pull out the old antenna, i have about 7 inches sticking out. Any ideas would be helpful.

Do you have the radio turned on (to push the cogged nylon "driver" as far out as possible?)

I have the cable totaly removed, it came off with the top portions of the antenna, my problem is removing the bottommetal portion of the mast to completely remove the old antenna.

I remember mine being difficult to remove but it does come off. I think I had to grap it with some pliers and give it a good whack.

I just did this last weekend. Mine broke off and I couldn't pull the last segment out with pliers, so I had to use a 3/8" drill. I drilled into the leftover mast until it bit, and then pulled it out.

i did this about 3 years ago. You get to the mounting bolts via the jack compartment.
You unscrew the antenna portion out by using long nosed pliers to turn the chrome ring around the antenna by putting the nose pieces into the two holes. Sounds weird but trust me it works lol.

There is a small sheeth that is keeping it in. Just like on your new mast. Just grab whats hanging out with some plyers and pull hard! It will pop out. It's the only way to get it out. When you put your new one in it will be hard and you kind of have to force it. The problem is that there is a little locking piece on the mast. Once you get past this point it's easy. Good luck! I just did mine, and for the same reason! Accept my brother was being nice when I let him barrow the car and he took it through a car wash for me.

My problem is that my antenna snapped flush with the top of the mount. The piece I cant get is stuck inside the tube. Anyone have any ideas?

I just did this and had the same situation as you gakary. I had to take the whole thing out of the car and take it apart. Then I used the new antenna to push out the old one from underneath. It was in there very tight.

I just got done going through this headache and I'm here to tell you that, barring a miracle of yanking force, that sucker ain't coming out! Save yourself the headache and get a whole new motor and assembly with the antenna installed. Ebay has used ones that they pulled from wrecks for around $20. Oh, and if you go through the headache of taking the motor assembly apart be warned, it's a pain to get back together. Mine is still in pieces. If you come up with a way I've overlooked...I'm all ears!

To get the old antenna out, I slid the nylon gear strip through a wrench until it hit the antennae (a small wrench, 10mm or maybe 8mm). Then I slid the new antenna up the bottom of the tube with the antenna, and then used a hammer to hit the wrench close to the base of the new antenna which slowly pushed the old one out. It was difficult, but didnt take long once i figured that out. also it really isnt that hard to take the motor apart and put it back together, i did it multiple times.

well when i did mine it , just like everyone has been saying, was not fun mine had been broken for quite a while like since i owned it the way i got mine out was i took the retaining rod out of the motor assembly and used a flat screwdriver to bend it (the old rod of course) into all sorts of funny lookin shapes then eventually it came out make sure you lube it with some good grease too after all that work it would really suck if it got stuck.

Not sure why you guys are having the problem. Take a pair of snap pliers, unscrew the antenna mast nut (which has notches in it) using the snap pliers. Turn the radio on and as the antenna, or what's left of it, comes out, everything will come out, including the sleeve. Insert new antenna, turn radio off so that it pulls it in, then screw the retaining nut back (27960B on the Courtesy Nissan parts fiche). There's no need for force or pulling hard on anything.

I had the exact same problem last year. I just bought a whole power antenna assembly from some one who was parting out a 4th gen. 15 bucks shipped was worth it.

my antenna is also broken with part of it still stuck inside... haven't replaced it yet. but one thing i did do was take out the power to the power antenna, and pushed down on antenna as far as it goes down, and then just taped it on the black rubber part... and then i taped it again with electrical tape to not make it not look weird since my car and since my car is black it doesn't look that bad.. so i only have like 8 inches of the antenna mast taped and the radio works fine.. im guna replace it and im sure all have the same problem taking out the parts that stuck inside out..

I had to remove the motor from the trunk, put it in a vise, clamp a vise grip pliers on the mast and hammer on it until it released from the motor assembly. It took some time until it came out.
