ABOUT TO DO MY LW FLYWHEEL/CLUTCH

Well I got my fidanza flywheel and F1 clutch in the mail the other day. I'm waiting for my friend to hook me up with some royal purple for the trans. I got a new rear main seal. I've heard its a good idea to replace the axle seals while the trans is out but i'm not going to worry about it. i'm taking a day and a half to get it done so i think i should have plenty of time.

Any hints/suggestions?

from what I have read, use the nissan oem throw out bearing. You don't really want to go through all that work and then have a cheap-o p.o.s. bust on you.
good luck

I just changed my clutch too, I would also recommend that you change your axle seals while you are down there, also just use the nissan seal, its just like $30 instead of using some cheap seal that may leak.

Oh god, your about to make the EXACT SAME two huge mistakes that I myself made 2 years ago.............

1: that gripforce f1 clutch will ruin your fidanza, and you'll have to buy new inserts.......

2: If you attempt to do the rear-main seal without removing the upper oil-pan it WILL leak worse than before....... FSM procedure FTMFW.

Seriously, get your money back somehow & do it right, or else it's going to cost you much more in the long run. The rear-main seal on a maxi pretty much never leaks, but the upper oil pan end seal does! And that's the one you'll be improperly stuffing in if you try to just change the rear main. I'm not alone on the 'it leaked worse than before' either. But I think I am the only one stupid enough to give that gripforce F1 a try and have it ruin my fidanza.

Oh, one more thing, you must sand your bellhousing & starter surfaces to look like brand new metal or else you'll have the dreaded starter problem.

damn that sucks about the f1... thats the only clutch i can afford right now and i need a new one. maybe i should get a 5.5 gen 3.5l clutch? will it fit? i suppose i'll get the axle seals and how do i seal the upper oil pan gasket? i have some GMS engine sealer at the house, should i just drop the pan enough to squirt some in or what? that means i'll have to change my oil again which sucks since i just did it last week..... lol

thanks for that help!

That was my reasoning behind getting the F1 also, but the 5th gen exedy can be had for $121 shipped, actually from the same place you probably bought the F1 from,(speedsolutions, I think there e-bay name is gripforce) so they might be able to help you out, if they give you a hard time call my phone & let me know & I'll call them and try to see what they can do, I've bought about 5 clutches from them in the last 2 months and have recommended many .org members go to them as well.

The pan seal is complicated, it's for the upper pan, not the lower, which means if you want to do it with the tranny out = engine hoist = pita. Also, you have to get about $70 worth of parts from the dealer. Permetex grey is equivelant to what nissan uses for gasketmaker. Honestly, you shouldn't have to worry, it has to leak REALLY REALLY bad for it to get on the clutch, most of the time I just re-tourqe the two long upper oil pan bolts at the back to 15 ft/lb's, they loosen up due to their length, which is probably why the VQ likes to start sweating oil inside that bellhousing after 50k, but again, it has to leak REAL bad, I've only seen 2 rear upper oil pan seals leak bad enough to warrant replacement, and even than they didn't get on the clutch (one of them was mine when it was dripping almost constant once warmed up)

I really dont remember right now, but if you go to the auto store they have to look in the transmission category, i went through the same problem. I would go to the dealer though.

Oh, I must be wrong than, yeah, you won't have any problems for sure, I mean they wouldn't say that just to sell a clutch of course.

well he assured me i wouldn't have any problems and that they sell that combination all the time.

what was it about the f1 that would ruin the fidanza?? you said it would ruin it but what exactly happened to make you say that?

i believe a 5.5 disc will work. its slightly larger in diameter than a 3.0. i ran my 3.0 spec stg 3 for a couple mths with no problems.
