Transmission Trouble

Transmission Trouble
So I recently had a transmission leak. It was pretty bad, due to the axle all but falling out. Anyway, I drove about 300 miles topping off the transmission constantly (Had no choice). So I finally fixed the axle and there's no leak. Transmission is topped off. The problem I'm having is going into gear. Sometimes it will let me get into 2nd or 4th and sometimes I can't get into any gear. I have to force 1st and 3rd and sometimes even that doesn't work. It doesn't matter what I do with 5th, it won't go in. Reverse sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Is my tranny done?

Sounds like a fragment of something is loose and inside the tranny. It will tend to fall to the bottom of the trans case and block the shifter mechanism. (I know from experience - a piece of the speedo gear once did that and I got the same symptoms you have).
Drain the oil and maybe you can find the loose piece though the position sensor opening.

It wouldn't require replacing the trans, but depending on how much you're willing to pay, a replacement is generally cheaper than a rebuild.

Well, update: Shifter just broke. Pretty sure it's at the linkage where the actual shifter and shifter linkage combine underneath the car over the cat. I'm gonna get it back into the air and see if that's true. Stuck in 4th gear now.

Haha yeah, my check engine light is on but it's only for my IACV seeing as I don't have one. My support bracket came off. That's why the shifter "broke" on me. I'm gonna try fixing that and see if it solves my problems. Anyone have tips on how to get the support bracket into the shifter linkage cause I tried for 2 hours earlier and got nowhere.

Are you talking about the bracket that fits onto the rod leading into the transmission?
That is not easy to do. In most cases I need to use a press to remove that bracket from the striking rod and I only do that with the trans completely disassembled. If you heat up the bracket pretty good it may slip onto the rod easier, but make sure it stays lined up at the roll pin holes and you don't burn up the oil seal and rubber boot.
