my oem seat broke, I replaced it with a gray leather one from a junkyard. Surprisingly, all the power controls worked and it also has heat, which I got the switch for.

However, this leather, it's not the best leather seat I've sat in, that's for sure. My wife told me to just buy the other junkyard leather seat so they match, but I guess if I was going to go leather I would get black. AND, I'm not really sure I like it, I'm 5'11", I don't know if that's a factor, but I'm really not excited about it at all.

I might just swap the upholstery from my old seat.....I thougth I would like the leather a lot.....

the maxima's leather isn't all that great. coupled with the width of the seat you side around a bit. but it beats building up static and getting shocked getting out of the car.

I find that the leather is so much easier to clean. A little wipe and your done. No need to bust out the fabric cleaner every time.
You do need to stay on top of the moisturizing though. hmmm trade off

I got rid of my 90 Saab w leather when I lived in TX for my first Maxima, a 97 SE w cloth seats. When I moved to KS I quickly found that I wanted the heated leather seats back, hence I sold the 97 and got an 03 SE. Btw, the Nissan leather is not the greatest but it is cheaper than KatzSkin leather.

There are cars out there with heated cloth seats, for those that don't know. I've sat in some extremely high quality cloth seats. For example, Lexus GS300 2001, without the leather and sunroof. (very rare). The cloth was very high quality. I would take that type of (heated) cloth seats over a poorer quality leather seat, such as the maxima or accord. However, leather exudes a sense of luxury, even if it is of cheaper quality. It definitely helps resale value, and girls always like it. (Unless its hot and sticky). The Lincoln LS has heated / cooled seats. The DTS I rented last year in Miami had heated / cooled / massaging front seats. Those were extremely comfortable. The seats got so cold I got cold cramps lol.

I had cloth originally, but wanted the look of leather. I was hesitant at first because I like the way cloth held me in my seat, and the cold/hot thing.
After I swapped I dont regret it, it isnt as bad as I thought. Dark tint plus windsheild shade help keep the car cool in the summer and the leather is much more easier to clean.

I'll give it a little longer, because I could get the other seat that is also heated. I guess I could also get the other seat and swap the upholstery...

you can tint the front windows if you want. I have the same law here that limits tint to 0% on the front windows. Whatever. Most tint places will tell you that it's illegal and that's all that they are required to do. They will happily take your money to tint the front window.

Infact, I have a buddy who tinted the windscreen on his Escalade with 35%. So far, he hasn't been pulled over.

Leather looks better (personal opinion) and doesn't hold in smells. The grip does leave a bit to be desired but I will deal with it down the line. G20 leather seats actually hold really well so I may look into those...

I like leather because they had to kill a cow in order to make my seats.

But I suppose conversely, they probably would have killed it anyway for food, which means I'm helping get the most out of every dead cow.

My cloth drivers seat is manual, so now its a manual leather covered 350Z seat since I used my original rails.

if you get cloth and do not like them i can always add leather. just make sure it is some that know what they are doing, especially if you have side air bags

Once having leather I find it hard to go back. Easier cleaning up spills and I don't really notice that much difference in the hot/cold temp. of them. Have tinted windows. I definately think they are more comfortable than cloth but I have never sat in a GS300's cloth seats

Not great for cornering and stuff cuz you slide around, but i like the feel.

I like Lexus' leather.. its soooo soft. (The old es300 i rode in anyway.. felt like a big leather couch). My bmw had leather, but it was all hard and stuff, but id still take that over cloth.

Really, leather is a pain in the ***. Hot as hell in the summer, and it gets really ugly when it gets old.

Me personally, I would go for a leather 'synthetic' (aka vinyl) if it gripped better. Other than that, maybe suede, but most likely cotton.

Though, if I had the money, I would snag the seats from my dad's M45. Leather, heating AND cooling... just needs better bolstering for spirited driving.

I want leather seats but I only would get them if I got all the interior stuff like the door pannels, and the front and back seat. I'm way OCD when it comes to stuf like that.

i have the heated cloth seats, 8-way driver, manual passenger

the colour has faded a bit in on the rear upper head rest area, but it does not hold any smells and looks fine everywhere else.

leather cracks.

there are good and bad things about both, its all about preference. BTW i sat in a buddy's 95 with leather and his seats seem to heat up faster in the -30 C weather than mine do..

I have leather seats and have applied the leather protector routinely since new. The car was leather protected (and Diamond coated and rust-proofed) before I picked it up from the auto-broker over 13 years ago.

The leather seats are in near new shape and I wouldn't have cloth seats if you paid me for them.

Granted I don't live in a hot climate, and the heated seats do feel great in colder weather.

i have leather and i prefer it over cloth only because i have ADD and id b tempted to pull one thread on the cloth seat till its down to the foam underneath....or poke holes in it...
not to mention it looks better...girls like leather seats

Cloth > Leather, especially in 4th gens I think. I don't like the way the leather is cut on the 4th gens; plus I'm against sitting on dead cow. I think I'll stick to cloth my whole life if I can manage it.

I ONLY get bothered about it in my town, where I live. I drove around philly for 3 years with 10% all around and never got pulled over.

Actually, there is only two places I've been pulled over, Upper Providence (outside of philly) and Mount Lebanon (outside of Pittsburgh). The judge dropped all the tint tickets providing I pull it off (except the rear window), apparently there isn't as much to do in a "real crime" sense in that town.

Cloth cloth cloth. Leather is hot when it's hot and cold when it's cold. Plus if you have big dogs they could EASILY puncture the leather with their nails. Or kids too for that matter (puncture with a toy not nails lol).........My biggest problem though is that the 2nd day I got my 96 GXE, my passenger didn't flick his cig out the window and burnt a gorgeous hole in the seat....any suggestions about fixing cigarette burn in cloth? I've seen that "new leather" stuff on TV and at the "As seen on TV" store which says it will work for cloth....any one try this or need to fix a panel of their cloth seat?
