Unsolved Problem

After 2 recent visits to my mechanic, and several part replacements,my Max is still stalling out at stops and continues to run hesitantly.I just replaced 2 oxygen sensors, knock sensor and had the MAF cleaned. However, last night while I was driving home from work the check engine light came on,so evidently its trying to acknowledge the problem.I've also recently noticed that when it does run hesitant I can smell a light gas oder.I've finally decided to take it to the "stealership" next tuesday so I can FINALLY find out what the **ck is wrong.I was told that usually if you have to clean the MAF then you should prolly get it replaced, so I'm thinking that if I replace that part it will be good. What do you guys think cuz I'm really at the end of my rope with this.

If it is a bank lean code, MAF is a good bet.

He hasn't even checked codes yet, it could be a very simple and cheap issue. Also, dealer diag charges alone are probably about the cost of whatever part he'd need.

It certainly sounds like it is the MAF sensor to me. I would buy a Haynes Book at Auto Zone and check out chapter 6, section 5. It will tell you how to do a voltage check and a resistance check. A quote from Haynes says. "quote, a defective MAF sensor can cause surging, stalling, rough idle and other driveability problems. My daughter had this problem and after I replaced the MAF it took care of it. Good luck.

Yep,thats what I have planned. It goes in on Tuesday for diagnosis.I'm just hoping that they will be able to figure this out.My check engine light still goes on and off regularly so I guess the computer will store whatever codes that come up.Thank everyone for the input. If you guys have anymore info let me know.

Why not take the 30 seconds and pull the codes?
