****kyb Agx's Are Finally Here*****

I will confirm this over the phone on Tuesday to make SURE.

No joke
I e-mailed Chuck over at KYB asking him on a confirmed delivery date, and if they will be offering strut mounts and boots as well. Today I received the Following e-mail,

"The 1995~99 Maxima AGX products have arrived at our California warehouse and are ready for shipment. Your KYB retailer can order these if that is his warehouse. The Chicago warehouse will receive the product on Wed.10/10."

We offer only the strut mounts. The part numbers are:

Front - SM5122
Rear - SM5123

Now we have to wait for Brain C Catts to e-mail all of us.

I called 8 different suppliers all over the US and they all told me the same thing, that they will not be available till the end of December. So if somehow they are getting it sooner then please email me about it.

I even called KYB directly and they told me another couple months..........something strange is going on here.

No no no, that was the KYB AGX stickers that give you 30hp. The struts/shocks give you 15hp.

Hey all,

I'm interested in the AGX's too - have been for a while, but they were nowhere near available the last time I was considering suspension work, so was considering the Koni's. Could be a blessing in disguise I had to hold off - those AGX's are nice!

I went to KYB's website & posted the following inquiry - hopefully they have something more to say than typical P.R. department mumbo-jumbo.

Sent 10/09/01. . .

"Dear KYB,

I own a 1995 Nissan Maxima SE and am active on www.maxima.org , a owner-interest newsgroup/community for Maxima enthusiasts. It is a rather large virtual community and many of us are performance-oriented drivers. My point? There's a LOT of eager rambling and rumbling among the members about the impending (?) release of the KYB AGX adjustable struts & shocks for the ("4th generation" / '95-'99 Nissan Maxima) in the "Forums" section of www.maxima.org these days.

Please help me separate fact from fiction, so I can report back to the group - When exactly does KYB expect this product to be available to ("4th generation" / '95-'99 Nissan Maxima) consumers in the marketplace?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide."

Regards,
Keith

I'll keep you guys posted - seems like time to get the word "from the horse's mouth," so to speak. (I've heard several mentions of delays, changes in production forecasts, etc., through retailers & distributors over the last year, too). 'Gettin frustrated.

Ok all,

Here's the scoop from the KYB AGX product manager in a very prompt response to my inquiry. . .

"Keith,

The AGX adjustable products for the 1995~99 Maxima have just arrived
from Japan and are now available for shipment to KYB's Distributors. Those that have pre-ordered units will be shipped immediately. The balance of distributors can order at will."

The KYB AGX part numbers are:

Rt. Front strut - 734017
Lft. Front strut - 734018
Rear Shock - 741039

Chuck Gonwa

Phone: (630) 620-5555
Fax: (630) 620-8133
E-Mail : chuck@kyb.com

-end letter-
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

All indications are it is just a matter of finding a distributor whose got 'em, or should have 'em in a matter of days, if not weeks. . .

Good luck!

any possibility of a group buy?
sounds like there would be at least 25 of us...

also NE1 know how they compare to konis -
in terms of performance
in terms of longevity
in terms of price

Performance : No, nobody has them
Longevity : No, nobody has them
Price : No, nobody has them

Does that help?

Actually if they are similar to how they are for other cars, then they will be better than the koni's and cost less.
I think early cost guessing was around $400 for all four (or less)
Plus, they are direct replacements, not modifications like the Koni's.

Re: so... who's up for a group buy?

I'll call my friend today, he works for KYB and so knows all of their distributors. I'll see if he knows anyone willing to deal. I'm sponsored by them, and they've been promising that I'll get mine as soon as they get to the US, so hopefully soon.

oh, probably around $100 for a set of 4

yeah, ok, I'm dreaming...

It'll depend on:
- how many of us are interested
- who is offering the deal
- and how much of a break they want to offer.

Tire rack wants $400 for the set.
Figure a little less.

I wonder if KYB would deal with us directly?
But their dealers might object.

So far I'm the only member I see on the list.
I don't think that "one" counts as a group buy.
