Ben's ECU Mod not working?

I did Ben's ECU mod today, which involves cutting the pink wire with the blue strip on the ECU harness. I cut the pink wire with blue strip, and put a switch on it, a 2 prong toggle switch, not one of the 3 prong switches which has a ground. I tested the switch prior to installation, switch works. Anyways, I tried to go past my governed speed, 116 or so, and had no luck. I tried the switch in both toggle positions and was governed at the same old 116 both times. Would the switch need to be toggled PRIOR to starting the car? I can't imagine this would be the case, but I'm rather dumbfounded by this. I was running on a closed course so traffic wasn't an issue.

Ok, when you are looking at the ECU, with the harness plugged in, did you cut the pink/blue wire on the right half of the harness?

That's the one you want.

Try taking your switch out and going for it. If you cut the correct, then the switch may be the culprit.

Holy crap where'd this come from??? I was actually about to post again about this. No, I never got it work. I cut the pink/blue wire on the right side of the harness. Like I said, I tried the switch in both positions. After trying to go past 116 mph on my "closed course" I got mad and ripped the wire off one side of the switch. So now basically its as if I just cut the wire and the 2 ends are sitting there, not in contact. I don't imagine you'd have to unhook your battery or anything to get this to work, though I haven't tried that.

My check engine light is on all the time because of a broken wire on an O2 sensor. I noticed after I did this, like the following day, that I had a new code which I had never gotten before. It was something to do with the fuel evap canister. Actually I'll go check the codes right now, and double check to make sure I cut the correct wire, though I'm sure I did cut the correct one. Back in a few.

Just checked it, I'm sure I cut the correct wire. Its a thin pink wire, with a blue stripe going down either side, about 1" from the right side of the harness, when looking at it while connected to the ECU. Like this:

[------------------------------]
[------------------------------]
[-----------------------X------]
[------------------------------]

The wire is where the X is approximately.

I just checked my codes too, and the only code I was pulling was 0402, Fuel Tank Temperature Sensor. WTF? I had to cut the wires to one of my 02 sensors to install my y-pipe, why the heck isnt the O2 sensor code showing? The O2 sensor was already bad, so it didn't matter if I cut it or not, it has to be replaced anyhow.

Also, I noticed that 0402 is not listed in the explanations of the codes. 0402 shows up on the vbmaxima page, but there's no description of it in the stickies above. It's kind of self explanatory from the name, but still I wonder what the heck has caused this. I remember getting this code too. The day after I cut the wire, I got the EVAP CVCV code once, then I reset and it went away, then I got the Fuel Tank Temp Sensor, along with the O2 sensor code. Now I get only the Fuel tank temp sensor code. I have no code regarding the speed sensor which is what I INTENDED TO DISABLE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Even though the supposedly correct wire has been DISCONNECTED FOR 3 MONTHS.

I'm out of ideas. Anyone?

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....=pink+and+blue

No automatic Maximas have speed limiters. Only certain 5 speed GXEs which came without the C&C package, like me and Sprint and SX7R.

So what gives. I cut the wire that is on the side Ben described and it turns out not to be the correct wire? What side was the wire you cut that WAS NOT on the correct side, the right or left? And where was the wire that DID work. Make a cool little diagram like I did

I'd think its pretty self explanatory. If I'm wrong so be it, but its obvious I'm saying that automatic maximas do not have governors.

I forgot... but its the only other pink/blue wire you can't miss it..

oh and all GXE's 5spd and Auto's had limiters..

unless

they were C&C/S&C package ... usually if you have a GXE with a remote.. you don't have a limiter..

I don't understand why Nissan would put limiters on only select models.

My 95 GXE auto did not have a speed limiter, but it had the C&C. My 97 SE 5er is not limited either. I Found myself pushing 130 on the highway yesterday.

GXEs seem to be hit or miss with the speed governor. The SE and GLEs do not have them, however.

weird how some 4th gen can't go past 116. I don't mean to brag, but my 99 goes to 143 without any cutoff whatsoever...just makes me wonder if it is governed at all.

ok look I hit 120 with only the filter about 2 months ago when I got to 120 it just didin't move. So then I found the way to disconect the top speed limiter off of here. yesterday 12/22/03 I hit 132 and it was still going I just had to let go of the gas because of a ford truck was in the way. And that is with the cai & cat back & cutting the pink wire withe the blue stripe

As far as I know I'm the only person with the 6 spd but I'm certainly not unhappy. The only thing I was unhappy about was all the work it took to install it. The combo of the 6spd with the S/C and the HLSD has to be the best thing I ever did. Because of the taller 1st and shorter 2nd third & fourth gears I'm always in the "boost range". This gives the car an advantage over a 5spd boosted max. When he hits 2nd and has lag due to the short first and tall 2nd gears I'm gone. And yes I have tested it against other boosted max's. Plus its a locking diff, not a limited slip. I'm getting the car ready for a VQ35de swap in w/ the s/c so I wanted to have the drivetrain ready.
