Tonight was the first time I ran the quarter with my new Apex Ws catback. I expected maybe one or two tenth tenths quicker, but damn, it ran half a second slower. It was at the same track and about the same temp. The only thing I can think of is the 02 sensor I didn't put back on the new pipe. Could this sensor slow me down that much?

Doubt it..

I doubt it had anything to do with the catback.

Bad run? 60' time? R/T? 1/8 time?

What size is the exhaust? Too big= not enough backpressure = slower car

It was close to the same reaction & 60' times. I ran the car 3 times and every time, the same result. The bottom end feels better than before as far as response so I wouldn't think that it has no backpressure. Any more ideas? Thanks for your feedback.

Is this the only mod you have been doing to your car lately? Nothing else that would affect weight or anything or even other mods you have done between now and then?

The only thing else I have done was to tap into my Vehicle speed sensor to remove my speed limiter.

Sweet, this guy's car is all ate up with patented MZMTG ghetto mods, trans switch, speed limiter removal, AE style lights...

...of course, you drive an SE, so you didnt have a speed limiter to begin with. You hacked up your ECU harness for no reason. Have a nice day.

Was all the audio eqipment and stuff in there before? Subs , amps, and boxes are a lot of weight. I mean most subs are gonna be around 20 + pounds. Never mind the boxes and other crap once your done.

Having no rear O2 sensor will hurt your performance. I'm surprised your ECU hasn't thrown a code. By not running the rear O2 sensor, the engine will run richer in the upper rpms because it is not getting the correct readings. As your rpms climb, you want the engine to run leaner in order to make good power.

MZMTG, nice catch on that. Oh well...

And get a hole drilled in the pipe so that you can reinstall the oxygen sensor. Your engine will like you. Why did't I catch that the fist time?

Hmmm . . . .

IIRC the rear O2 sensor is mounted after the cat and makes sure your cat is working properly. Your sig mentions a gutted cat. If the cat ain't workin', you must aquit

But I ran the car with the gutted cat before the Apex was put on and I ran my best times ever. I guess i will get that sensor put back in. Oh yeah, thanks ben for your ghetto mods, and yes I did hack up my computer for nothing. The reason I thought that I did have a speed limiter is because I could'nt get the car past 120. But after doing this mod it didn't change a thing. So I just left the switch in the car since I already drilled a hole for it.

Re: Re: Hmmm . . . .

OK. Nix the cat suggestion. As for your 120 mph thing, I can suggest these 2 things;

1) keep your car in 3rd gear as long as possible, OD off etc. I'm not certain of the procedure, you're an auto and I'm a stick, but its something like that.

2) Change your feul filter if you havne't done it in 30K miles or so. When I originally got my car, I couldn't get past 125 mph. Replaced the feul filter and bam! 140!

You probably have your foot to the floor when you hit 120 (its the top of third gear). Let go of the gas a little and let it shift into 4th. From there, feather the gas until you keep climbing. Oh, AND DRIVE SAFELY!!!

Yeah I need to change my fuel filter(it has 65,000 miles on it. Do you think that I could benefit from a Fuel pressure riser or a bigger fuel pump?

65K miles on 1 fuel filter? Holy cow! CHANGE IT NOW! You are going to notice a big difference!! Also, if you're like me, you don't want to have to deal with that feul filter so often. The last time I changed mine, I put in a 300ZX filter. It's twice the size of the Maxima one, so you'll get a longer change interval before you have to change it again.

As for the pressure riser and feul pump upgrade, I wouldn't really know. I would think that you would need those only if you were planning on going S/C, or turbo. Applications which significantly increase your need for feul.

As long as your sock one can hit 43PSI, you don't need to upgrade. Oh and Ant, sorry.

I have no rear O2 sensor and have had 94 mph traps.

I think anything from weather to track conditions could be the cause.. I think you should be careful to make sure that you have low front tire pressure as that can make a difference. and change your fuel filter before your car gets angry at you
