Bad starter causing faux-CPS code?
In an attempt to fix my Crankshaft Position Sensor code, I've been doing some research around the org and came up with this:
Could the CEL for 0407 (CPS (REF)) be cause by a bad Starter? 0407 activates when an inconsistent 120 degree signal is received, and wouldn't a poorly operating starter cause a poor start, tricking the ECU into thinking the CPS is bad, when its actually the starter?
The reason I say this is because my car takes longer than usual to crank, an initial cold start is a good 8-10 cranks or 5-6 seconds of cranking.
The only doubt, or thing keeping me from cleaning my starter ( http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~microso...ter/index.html ) Is that once the engine is running, and the CPS is good, wouldn't the code go away because of a consistent signal?
I've diagnosed the sensor itself...
Resistance across terminals: 552 ohms (Accepted range: 470-570)
Voltage from Blk to ground: -0.002v
Voltage from Wht to ground: -0.001v

Yes, a slow or erratic starter can throw that code. Back when I had a 95 with 210k miles, it would take 5-10 seconds to start. I replaced the starter and it started with one turn of the crank.

Hmmm but I'm also noticing a decrease in power on the car. At WOT in any gear when it hits ~3900 RPM's, the car will suddenly stop its acceleration, like its being choked and then pick up again around 5,000 RPMS.
Will the ECU not read a sensor if its CEL is activated, causing problems even if the sensor is alright?
