passenger side axle seal leak

so recently i noticed 5 or so drop sunder my car every time i turned it off

5 speed
vlsd( canadian)
200k km

i also notice a clunking noise when the tranmission was in gear usualy in 2nd and 3rd ( may b in 4th and 5th but my exahust gets loud enough i cant hear it anyways). so i took it to the tranny guy at work today and after looking at it he said right away that my axle seal is gone and that would be the 1st thing to replace. I told him about the noise and he said we will road test it tomorrow to see the noise.

I started reading about this on the org and alot of peaple are saying the diff bearings could be the cause of this. but then i read this:

"Trannys with bad bearings usually don't have gold fluid. It's usually black from being saturated with bearing grit and even if the oil is changed it almost immediately gets dingy due to the remaining stuff inside. While looking at the drips outside is hardly a way to see what's going on inside, at this point it's the only info available."

the fluid i see dropping it a golden colour and i opened the fill cap up the other day and used a needle type device to suck up the oil so i could see the colour. It looked brand new and clean and i havent changed it and have owned the car for 8 months now so according to this statement its probably just a rareity and the axle seal is gone? or is this statement wrong and my diff bearings are worn?

also i ahve had the clunking noise for about 3 months and only dripping for about 2 weeks if that helps

any insight would be helpful

Usually cars with worn out bearings have lots of miles and old, never (or rarely) changed fluid that ends up being black. Just because yours isn't black doesn't mean your diff bearings aren't bad. Let us know what you find out.
