Replacing front AT motor mount with MT mount
I have been looking for a definitive answer as to whether I can simply replace the front motor mount on my '96 AT with one from a MT so I can put ES inserts into both, however I have not been able to find anything for the 4th gen, just the 5th gen which is located here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...8&postcount=21
Does anyone know if this will work? I would rather not order a front MT mount and ES insert just to find out that something doesn't line up properly.

intersting read i always tought mounts were complete diffrent and wont bolt up. i might get some ES now=P
the connector will never cause a CEL it isn't designed to. CEL only turn on if anything emissions related. a mount that firms/softens on either idle or driving will never affect emissions. and i think only the GLE have those.

no its either GLE only or all. SE didn't really have anything SE only other then SE-L
it works like at idle i think it softens up to reduce vibrations and etc. so you dont feel the engine move and shake as much. and then when your moving it hardens up like a normal mount. if you notice if you ever rev you engine up with the hood open the engine doesn't move much at all IF you mount are 100% working.
i could have it other way around idle= hard but this made sense to me and thats how i understand items. so with the connector disconnected its going to be either hard or firm, which ever default is but i assume firm like a normal one.

..bump bump for me.
I just replaced front, back and non-trans side engine mount ... My front and back mounts were electronic (Nissan Cefiro '94 auto VQ30), looking at the electric components on the mount I don't see how this can affect firmness at all as it just has a needle like bit that goes from the electrics into the mount.. Mechanic and I was thinking that it could be like a knock sensor type deal if the ECU detects the mounts have excessive pressure or twist it backs off the timing? I kind of doubt that it energizes the liquid in the mount to make it firmer
Will check the consult port tomorrow and see if any ghost codes.. I have no CEL's.
Is the consensus that we can just throw out the electric bit from old mount or should we be leaving them connected??

Replacing electronic mounts with regular mounts 97 SE
Could not find my answer by searching so Im bumpin this old thread.
For you guys that used the MT mounts in place of the mounts with the sensor for Autos Did anyone get any CEL's for not replacing it with a mount with the sensor?
I dont want to spend the extra money on these so called electronic mounts if I dont need too. I can get all 4 mounts on ebay for 200 bucks, no sensors on any of them.

there are two steel mounts, that are the (1) front & (1)rear mounts and two aluminum mounts, that are the timing cover (r/front or passenger side ) and the transmission mount (l/front or driver side). these make your total of four mounts that mount the engine (& trans) to the car. so not all four are steel.

So the passenger mount is the one on the timing cover.
Usually this one is aluminum on 95-97 and steel on 98-99.
The front is the one by the radiator.
The rear is the one by the firewall.
Both of these are steel.
The trans mount is the one on the actual trans and obviously on the drivers side.
This one is always aluminum for manuals.
Usually the auto 95-97 is aluminum and auto 98-99 is steel.
