So after having the dealer recharge and add dye to my A/C, they determined that there is a crack in my condenser.

would i be able to replace this myself and just take it back to get it recharged again. i don't really feel like paying 600 dollars for them to do it.

yea its easy juat give youreself a day remove the radiator itll be all 10mm hose clamps and the top brackets take out the radiator then remove the a/c lines they should be 10 mm and 12mm bolts and removeve the evap mounting bolts give it a good smack towards the engine and it will come out
be careful discharging your a/c though its "illegal" to dump out in the air and it can kill you if youre close by inhaling

you can replace it yourself. but have them recharge it, and make sure you talk to the tech who does it so that he knows you replaced the condenser. he has to know this to add the correct amount of oil.

make sure your AC remains off until the system is recharged. it's supposed to stay off automatically to protect the compressor, but I wouldn't bet on it

yea i know there is a low pressure switch so it should stay off when theres not enough "freon" in the system.
i shouldn't have to worry too much about discharging the system it was almost empty after 2 weeks.

i figured replacing the condenser would be a lot harder, but it doesn't sound too bad. looks like its about time to start pricing out a condenser.

has anyone else had any experience with this or any tips

its not hard at all. I did it myself about a month ago. All you have to do is get the radiator out of there. You will need some open end wrenches to disconnect the hard lines to the condenser. After all is loose just slip the old condenser out and replace with new one.

alright, so how is the condenser mounted in there, are there any fasteners holding it in, or is it just sandwiched in by the radiator?

and are there any recommendations of manufactures for the condenser? other than OEM

There are two mounts on each side of the condenser besides the hard lines. The condenser I got wasn't a direct fit. I was only able to bolt one side with the rubber bushing and bolt. the other side I just used the bolt and had to toss the rubber bushing b/c of fitment problems. Its sturdy though. I wouldn't be alarmed if you can only get one mount on.
