no, get the parts and diy - will be a lot cheaper. check out the classifieds because i just saw someone selling a black hood there. grille - cheap at a yard, headlights - aftermarkets will be cheaper shipped than $200. and with diy you don't have any labor costs except beer for you and the buddy helping

Knock sensor probem
My ride is 99 Maxima SE manual. All over sudden my check engine light came on, I ran to Auto Zone for free scan and it came up with not one, but a bunch of codes! There where knock sensor and all the oxygen sensors. I was thinking I should start with knock sensor and see what happens than. What do you guys think?
And another thing, is eBay knock sensor OK?, or I have to by an original(the difference in price is about 4 and a half times ).

Where can I find out which one do I need, they all(eBay) have the same one #22060 30P00, however some of them saying that it fits my model and some of them saying that it does not. I tried to call dealer but they refuse to tell me the part#. Help me on that one please.

I use courtesy nissan parts web page to look up part numbers.
http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...&Category_Code=
shows that 99 Max uses the same knock sensor as all other years of 4th gen.
In addition to your previous question. While your knock sensor is likely busted, it would not cause CEL to come on by itself. Oxygen sensors would trip the CEL though. I have replaced knock sensor on my 95 Max and recently on my fathers 97 Max. Bought original Nissan parts of eBay. The last one cost me like $50 of ebay.
I also replaced front Oxygen sensor on my fathers 97, bought an NGK replacement sensor from http://www.sparkplugs.com/
good luck,
Max

replace the o2's, clear the codes and see if the knock sensor code comes back.

I see that , however what bothers me is that part#on courtesyparts is 22060-00001 and eBay (together with http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raca...&parttype=5108) has part# 2206030P00. I don't know if they are the same.

Do they have to be original? or what brands are reliable?
Thanks

you can get bosh (oe) fairly cheap or some other brands off ebay - best deal. it doesn't really matter which brand as they all do the same thing - it all depends on how much money you want to spend. universal o2's are the cheapest but you'll have to splice the wires in yourself.

As far as oxygen sensors, I chose not to use Bosch after reading o2 topics on this board. I bought NGK, but I chose to buy one with OE plug and not universal type. Turns out that the sensor that failed was already replaced once, and guess the brand? Bosch. Then again, I am sure that most repair places put Bosch sensors and most are fine.
Removing the front sensor was a complete b*ch. Get a stubby 22mm wrench and alot of patience.
good luck,
Max

yea my car sometimes has the CEL come on too. i had mine checked and it showed the KS, and both 02 sensors. its really hard to start sometimes too and my buddy told me it could be the coolant temp sensor. it sometimes detonates but when it gets running it runs fine with no problems. i replaced all coils and plugs so what do you guys think it could be?

If you have CEL codes, you have to start with those. Especially O2 sensors. I know I replaced coolant temp sensor in my Maxima and at that time I had a specific CEL code for it.
good luck,
Max

Thanks for the reply. When it comes to DIY, I would take a pass. I am a total dumba$$ when it comes to taking apart a car, and I would not risk doing that to my only car. Moreover, I am very new to Houston, and don't really know anyone who could help me out.
So as for the parts, I think I can manage to get better deal, but what do you think about the labor charge? Are they asking too much for what needs to be done? Or is that how much usually the body shops charge?
Thanks again.

don't be scared, the hood has 4(?) bolts on the hinges, the grill has no bolts - just 5 clips and lighs are easy to replace too. try the regional forum and see who's near you. i know body shops are damn expensive.

In this instance, I'd go w/ Cattman. Stillen's current piece is garbage. It is nothing compared to their 1st gen piece.
I went from a Stillen 1st gen to a WSP and Sound is horrid, and it clanks on shifts.
I have yet to have problems w/ any of my y-pipe flex sections.

Timing chain may have jumped a tooth
I just replace the Timing chain tensioner on my 99 Maxima. I took the timing cover off to do this. The car idles fine and no check light. Under hard accelleration the power is just not there. From about 2500 RPMS up it is kind of flat. I am afraid the chain may have moved a tooth while I had the tensioner out. Would that cause this kind of a problem and not set CEL.

A/C enigma
I have a 1997 gle with climate control. The a/c works fine when it is under 80 degrees and blows nice and cold. If you leave the car in the sun, or drive in city traffic in over 80 degree weather it will not work, not just blow hot air, but blow hot humid air. If I drive on the freeway or over 45mph it works fine. keeping the rpms up tends to help it also. If its parked in the shade on a hot day it works fine, or if I spray the hood for about 5 min with water before driving it. I've taken it to the shop and they said the freon levels are fine. its like something is stopping the ac from even turning on when its hot. when it works, like when on the freeway it works very nice and super cold even when it 110 outside. I dont even know where to start. I'm petty mechanically inclined and not afraid to get my hands dirty. Any suggestions?
