Just installed B&M sts
Just installed my new sts and had a few questions. It sounds pretty loud when the gears are ingaging. It's more like a thud sound, no grinding. It feels nice but I'm not use to the sound. Has anyone experienced this or has anyone had problems with their trannies after installing a sts?
By the way just installed a budget y pipe and thing rocks! It's like driving a different car.

hmmm...don't have a thud, but I do get that sound when the shifter resists going into gear and I kinda have to play with the shifter and force it into gear(yeah, I know it shouldn't do that, but I'm having that looked at). Sometimes I do get a metallic click when it goes into a gear....don't know what it's from as everything is tightened up, but it sounds frickin cool to me. All I know is, can't wait for some Amsoil and the Larrio shifter bushing (damn AAMCO people probably didn't put GL-4 in!)!

Since installing mine I never heard any thuds from the tranny, but I remember my b&m being extremely stiff and notchy for the first week it was in before it got broken in and loosened up a bit.
By the way, its been in for almost 2 years and now the shifter squeaks sometimes when pushing it into the next gear. What should I do spray some grease on the ball thing?

I have the shifter bushing installed as well and I'm really happy with the results. The sound is not a bad one, it's just louder than my stock shifter. I'm a little paranoid when doing modifications. I know that the car will last for a really long time (I sold my 3rd gen with 240,000 miles on it for $2,500) as long as I don't mess something up.
The sqeaking problem you are having should be an easy fix. I'd put a little grease on the shifter ball.

The shifter does infact make a noise. I can't explain it but it doesn't sound like anything bad, actually sounds pretty cool. I've paired the B&M with Larrio's bushing and Amsoil and well I'm in love with this set-up. Very nice shifts, alot harder then stock but way more accurate. When my new mechanic drove my car to the lift for the first time, the first thing he said was "This is the best shifter i have ever felt in my life"

Thanks for the reply. I'm getting use to it very quickly. I have noticed a little vibration sound coming from it. Not real loud but noticeable. Anyone else experience this or did I not bolt something down tight enough?
