Just curious. Found a guy who has a 98 Max for a really really cheap price. Problem is it has no bags. I have a friend who has a body shop so getting used bags shouldnt be that hard. The title is clean so putting in used bags would require no inspection. Strange thing is he a) says it has no bags on the sides of the seat, b) bags up front were never fixed (i can believe that with bogus inspections up here and c) he changed the motor @ 180K as preventative maintenance . Figured it would be better to change a motor with so many miles before it failed on him. I would do all of the work myself and parts would come cheap so that isnt the issue.BUT as far as i knew all 98-99 had seat bags. Am i wrong?

I thought only the 99's had the seat air bags and I think even then it was an option

i know 98's have them for sure. just not sure if it was an option or stock.


just checked the nissan parts site and it seems it was standard.

no not all of them have side airbags, it was part of the deluxe seating package for 98/99s, its in the faqs
my 98 doesn't have side airbags and all those extras.

98 and 99 have side airbags i think its part of a package that you need to get. 98 was the first year they had it. i have mines but i got a fully loaded everything. heated mirrors, leather heated seats and air bags.

But i think he is right saying it doesn't have side air bags. i dont know about engine.

if you read on the side it does say side airbags. if you dont have side air bags then the light would be on. if they put used ones in, how are you really able to tell.

if the things are on the side and they are harder plastic then it is side airbags, look for the airbag light in the fash on the RPM side. if he took it out the light would be blinking. if he removed the bulb. when you turn on the car the red AIRBAG light is always on for 2-5 seconds because it does a self test. then it should turn off. if it doesn't turn off and it is blinking something is wrong.

unless he is a true scam and put in an air bag simulator in there, tricking the car in thinkin there is a airbag and there is not.

sounds a little supicous to me, mines a 97 with 160,000 easy miles and i got it for $2200 just needed some exhaust work.

98/99s will have side airbags if they have the deluxe seating package
as noted here

just run a carfax on it see what the history is like, that may giv you some indication of why it is that cheap

I don't have the brochure with me, but I believe that the 98-99 models require leather, and ABS to get the option for the deluxe seat package with the side impact airbags. So, the deluxe package was not available on the GXE. I'm guessing that the requirement for ABS-$$$- was why this option wasn't ordered that frequently. I remember seeing new 99 GLEs on the dealer lots that didn't have ABS.

And oddly enough, or rarely ordered-you could get heated cloth seats on GXE and SE in 95-96, but you had to have ABS.
