Fuel Injector Removal

Is there a secret, simple, easy way to remove the injectors if you're not also removing the fuel rail (i.e, popping them up and out) without damaging them?

Loosen both screws with a vise grip when your car is cold (screws might be too soft for just a screwdriver):

Remove both screws and the metal cap. Then put the 2 screws back in (not all the way):

Use L keys or small screwdriver as leverage to "pop" it out:

You can see the damage to my injector from just using a vise grip on top (tried to pull it out that way but that didnt work)

Thanx, guys. I got the Phillips head machine screws out OK, and replaced them with Hex-head bolts (M5 x 16 mm - 0.80 pitch (metric)). Good idea about using the loosened bolts as lever-posts.
Oh, and BTW, for loosening those as well as other such soft, Phillips-head machine screws on the MAX (e.g., the ones holding the VIAS to the 00VI), I find very effective the hand-held impact driver I got years ago at Sears.

An impact driver is awesome on screws like that.

Werd.

I have a whole set of injectors I've been putting off replacing because I hadn't quite figured out how to get the ****** out. So they're getting done now.

It's stupid how easy it is after finding this thread. I literally DESTROYED mine and then they popped right out doing this.

And if you strip those screws, instead of drilling them out, just take a dremmel with a cutoff wheel and cut down into the head to make it a big flathead. Had to do that with one of mine and it was soo much better.

Ain't this some crap. Never saw this thread either. I was doing it partially right though by breaking screws with vise grip first. Getting the injector out, I used the same vise grip to hold top part and twist and pull at same time. Good thing those injectors were not getting reused. Is there a special tool for this?

You are using bolts to replace the stock injector body screws?
Id like to upgrade those soft heads myself. I had to get some extras at the junk yard when I was doing some work(those bolts are used all over the engine).

Thanks for the great tip! The L-shaped hex wrench along with putting back the screws helped me pull out the fuel injector very easily.

I had code P0302 (Cylinder 2 misfire) and white smoke was coming out of the exhaust that smelled like gasoline. My 99 Maxima (239,xxxx) had a rough idle too. I noticed this problem recently and the CEL came on really quick. After reading some threads on this forum, I knew it had to be the fuel injector since I replaced all ignition coils (OEM) and spark plugs (NGK Platinum) 3 years ago.

After replacing fuel injector #2 and resetting the CEL, the problem is now gone. This forum is great! Thanks everyone...

BUMP!!!

So i narrowed my misfire down to cylinder 6. Came across this thread and YAY!!!

My question is how can i test the injector? Put a screwdriver up to it and listen for the click? I know i can do a ohm test per FSM as well.

Food for thought I pulled 12 injectors for my 3rd gen today at the yard.

Remove screws (carefully they are soft metal)
Remove plate. ( throw across yard if applicable)
Then I twisted the injector
1/4 in extension with 1/4 socket and closest Allen head that fits into injector hole
Pry off another screw drivers handle while pulling up with your hand ( prevents injector and your tools going flying when it pops)

See photo (minus my hand holding injector as its holding a camera.)
