I know many of you will tell me it's my coils and I am 90% sure it can be, but want some other view points. I have 2 4th gens, one 95 auto and one 99 5spd. The 5spd misfires 60% of the time when starting to accelerate to mid rpm range(motor has a load, even after i let go of the clutch). The 95, never had a problem like this, so what i did is switch out the coils from one to the other. Now, the 5spd didn't do it anymore and I was happy, but now the problem came back while the auto is fine and dandy. I'm sure i need new motor mounts aswell, thinking it could make it worse(the bucking). So here is my questions. Should I change the mounts first or get a whole new set of coils?? For the motor mounts, is there a polyeurathane version i can find for them instead of getting stockers? I heard i can get ES motor mounts, but don't know the difference between the 2(stock SE vs ES). I'll check the group deals section for coils, but the mounts i need to be steered in the right direction.

ES (Energy Suspension) only makes motor mount inserts; to use them, you need to gut your current motor mounts and have the inserts pressed in.

Rear mounts are the same for all Maximas. Front mounts are different between automatics and manuals no matter what the trim (SE, ES, etc.), and automatic front mounts cannot accommodate the ES inserts. However, you can use a manual front mount in an automatic car without a problem.

what is a misfire? can you hear it or just feel it? and what does it feel like? how can you tell if your car is misfiring?

yeah the sparks are new...By ES I was thinking the canadian model maxima that's between the gxe and the SE...Wow was I off LOL...Ok, i went on this website called Mynismo.com and I think they have direct replacement(bracket and all). I have to confirm that though...For the front, i know they are different and i know it don't matter which one i use. I just want something solid so my engine has minimal movement.
So for the misfire, it has to be coils right?? I was thinking fuel filter or pump, but i know the pump will give it a hard time to start and this one starts right up. I do have a busted ground in the engine bay(a fairly large one, which is gonna be fixed this week along with complete exhaust, SS and tranny seals).

Go under the hood, with the car running. Rev the engine and see how much it moves, this can give you a good sense of what condition your mounts might be in.

a mis fire is a cyclinder not firing at the proper time. Like swinging to hit a baseball to early or too late.

Also check your injectors. I had the same thing happen and I replaced pretty much everything but the injectors. And eventually it turned out to be the friggin injectors.

so how do you know if your motor is misfiring? how can you tell? can you hear it? or just feel it? what does it feel like?

engines shakes and rpms jump up and down, that's misfire

If I understand correctly you took the coils from the 99 that had a bad miss and swapped them with the 95 that ran fine. The 95 still runs fine while the 99 ran fine for a short time and now has a miss again correct?

Personally I say that would eliminate the coils as the problem. Could be a bad connection on wires or connectors that connect to the coils or as Garrick said could be your injectors. You can do a quick check on the injectors with a automotive s***hoscope or a long screw driver. Listen to each injector, your listening for one (or two) that sound week or aren't always firing. To listen with the screwdriver put the metal end on the injector and put the other (preferebly wood) to your ear.

That could work...didn't think of it...man what would i do without you guys hahaha. But it does always do it though, so i hope i'll be able to hear something while i listen to the injectors, because at idle it runs fine and starts up like a champ...knock on wood

They had fuel injection? I'll bet Custer was running a carb.

95mtlMAXSE - Good point, if it runs fine at idle makes it tougher to find... maybe if you took the hood off and ride on top of the engine while someone else drove your could... oh well that's probably not a good idea .

Seriously though you may be able to hear something that points to a weak injector or one that's not firing evenly.

Yeah, so i got my friend to drive the car while i was sitting on the engine and heard nothing...LOL JK
