I thought maybe he was referring to doing neutral/clutch drops above 3K being bad, but never revving over 3K at all? Isn't that like dating a stripper and never seeing her with her clothes off?
My advice: Get full synthetic oil and test the rev limiter at least twice a day.
3K, 4K, 5K even 6K won't hurt your engine. You might actually be doing damage never going over 3K. You're engine will run all day long at 80mph, which conincidentally puts the revs over 3K.

Just get your oil change on scheduled intervals and the engine will run healthy. However, you did mention that you never went past 2k... if you feather throttle, you may save a little bit of gas but it you lug the engine and give moderate to heavy throttle at those low RPMs you actually waste gas.

1. Hammering the gas and shifting at low RPMs can reduce pumping losses in the intake and save fuel. It will also produce a heck of a lot of load on your engine, which is hard on the internal (read: expensive and hard to fix) parts.
2. Using part throttle and shifting at high RPMs is much easier on the internals, but takes more gas.
3. 3,000 rpm is neither high nor low for a well-built short-stroke engine with half-liter cylinders and microfinished surfaces. Every time you wonder about whether it's "safe" to be at that RPM, a very large group of Nissan engineers is laughing at you.
4. I spend way too damn much writing lists and long posts in response
to simple questions.

During the week while commuting to work and back, there's only one short section of road where I can take my max past 3000 RPM without going 20kph over the limit or hitting the car in front of me. (and most of the time there's nothing but cars in front of me)
Reality is, it's only on the weekends that I can get on roads where I can visit the higher RPM's relatively safely.
Now, if he does live where he can wind up the VQ without risking jail time, then... no excuse

Err... I kinda forgot to mention my engine knocks and rattles very nastily when I push it to 3000-4000 RPM on this crappy Mexican gas. Ah! Also I now mention that I am in a crappy Mexican pot-hole infested city with a lot of traffic. This place is in the top 3 biggest cities in Mexico.

I vote yes, of course revving your engine will wear it out faster than if you dont. We should all drive at idle speed
Now imma guess that your real question is that if it will wear it out significantly faster. And the answer is no.

Take this guy's keys away and hand him a Sentra. It's called a MAXima for a reason. What's the point of driving a fun car with a powerful engine if you don't use it? If you're so concerned about gas mileage, buy a gutless 4 cyl car that gets 35+ mpg.
IMO the fun begins at 3200 rpm, when you start being pushed into your seat, and just gets better up to redline. My clutch makes a weak rattling noise if I shift below 2500 (since it lands the rpms near 1500 post-shift), it sounds wrong so I avoid doing it.
I'd be asking the question "does repeatedly bouncing off my rev limiter as I strain to get ahead of these people so I don't get caught behind red lights ruin my engine?" Okay, I'm exaggerating, but stil.... I had to post. :-)

So uh... go read a book.

if manual depending on ur setup .. it would be pretty hard to drive around only going up to 2000
specially that 1-2 shift.... ive done it here and there but i dont liek the way the engine struggles (im on the 5thgen pressure plate and clutch) so i feel its a bit more rough as it grabs strong....

1-2 6500rpm
2-3 6100rpm
3-4 6000rpm
4-5 5800rpm

For years because of excess of time and lack of gas money, I would never go beyond 2000 RPM to accelerate.
