Blew my clutch AGAIN - please help choose
I have 146K miles on my 97 SE and the clutch went today. It was replaced approx. 2 yrs ago and in a brain fart of needing the car quickly, I told the mechanic to put in a "clutch". Well I wound up with the Nissan cheapie crappie clutch kit and it has died again.
I need help to tell the mechanic which clutch to use this time. Thoughts on a good clutch for street travel? I would like it tighter than the stock crap and more punch. I do not drag the vehicle but sometimes like to get on it when driving to/fro work. Please help.
Also, thoughts on cutting the flywheel?
Thanks: e3

Any thoughts on the ACT or Centerforce clutch? I guess I need to mainly specify street not race application right? Thanks. I need to find a mechanic (who won't crush me on price) and give him/her guidance on what clutch i want this morning. That is why i am being persistent. Thanks all!

What are key value parts? I ordered a 5th gen clutch, pp, and to bearing on the internet from nissan-auto-parts-dealer.com. Does that mean I am getting genuine or key value? How do I tell?

key value is the cheaper verion of the clutch. quality is not as good as the factory oem non-key value parts.
Key value is like the dollar store cookies, versus the chips-ahoy at the grocery store.

Thanks all. I am waiting to hear from the mechanic on what he can get. I told him ,NO work until I authorize the materials. If he can get the 5th gen easily, I may have him do that. Also, how much would you estimate for:
Install, clutch kit, resurfaced flywheel complete?
Last time with another shop and the cheapie clutch and NO flywheel resurface - $740 w. tax.
What else should he do while the tranny is out? Drain and re-fill tranny, etc? I want to ensure i get the car going for another few years. 146K miles and I NEED to avoid another car payment over the next few years. 2 kids, 1 income, etc....
Thanks for the help. Peace: e3
