My tach randomly will start bouncing around, sometimes burying itself at 0, sometimes ~2,000 above what it should be, but a lot of just random bouncing. I have Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction trouble code (P0500), so I started with replacing the VSS. It made no difference.

My question is what should I try to tackle next? Is there another sensor or is it probably a cluster problem?

I have an A/T.

I guess I wasn't thinking through my original post too well. When I said it randomly jumps around, I meant that it does that while I am driving, but it has always gone back to normal operation by the time I stop, so I cannot say for sure if it is limited to non-idle periods.

As for the TPS, for brevities sake I'll just say that my mechanic recently reinstalled it and tested the voltages, so that's working fine.

Stupid question but,is the car by any chance gearsearching at this time? because if it is, then you might have a selenoid problem with your tranny.

My car runs perfectly fine, just that the needle bouces around, so no.

Oh yeah, the cruise control will randomly stop working. Not sure if these two items are connected as there seems to be no correlation between when one stops working and the others functionality at that moment.
