Well a bad knock sensor wont trigger the CEL. More then likely the KS code came up because of the IACV. To see if you have a bad KS you have to check the codes for yourself if you dont know how to do it it is located in the stickies.

I have got a similar question

my CEL popped up last week on my 98 max GXE...I got a diagnosis scheduled for mid week..and a day before I actually gave my car, the CEL went off..since the car had some other problems also, I went ahead and left my car in the service center on the scheduled date.

other problems were fixed..i said no to replacing the KS as the cost seemed too high (300 labour +160 part)..the only code that came out of the CEL diagnosis is P0325 which in turn maps to 0304. I have read in many posts here and elsewhere also that 0304 does not trigger the CEL. It has to come with some additional code. Now that no other codes were returned, I am wondering what was the problem ? Did it correct itself ??

once I found that it had something to with knock, I have started using premium(93) fuel. I inquired at some other mechanic and he told me the total cost of replacing the KS is $300 (labour + part).

Also, I have to get my car emission tested within next 6 weeks...so my questions are
1) was my KS really gone bad and has to be replaced ?
2) should I get my car rediagnosied ?
3) will my car fail the emission test if I dont do anything about the code that is still in the car's ECU

Thanks

i know how to check for the codes but i didnt know that the ks wouldnt trigger the cel by itself, but are there any symptoms that the car would have if it were bad?

knock sensors are aorund 40 bucks on ebay and take 30 mins to install, 300 dollars is extremely high for a easy sensor.

300 is way too expensive to change a KS. I bought mine off ebay for $50 shipped and changed it myself. Check out the instructions in the stickies, you'll save yourself a lotta money down the line.

To answer another question you had, you will fail inspection if codes are stored in the ECU. Clear them and drive for at least 150 miles before your test.

I failed smog test two years ago because of a KS code stored on ECU memory. It turned out the KS cable was open-circuited. I replaced it and drove the car for 10-20 miles following a driving profile/pattern handed to me by my tech. I brought the car in for re-test next day, and it passed!

I just had my CEL checked at AutoZone and they told me that my ECU stored codes for my Knock Sensor, Vehicle Speed Sensor and EGR. I recently replaced the EGR and VSS so I think they're fine. So, Other than a bad KS does anyone know what this COULD be?
Thanks.

I am new to maxima but whatever I have read sofar it seems Maxi's are not very good as far as electrical system goes. You might have got knoc sensor code due to bad wiring.

My 95 GLE is throwing TPS & Knoc sensor codes, and TPS is pratically new, about 10K miles But 3 yrs old (car is rarely driven for last 3 yrs), so I am thinking these codes are due to electrcial issues,
