Bose Head Unit Swap?

Ok the head unit on my 96 Max is starting to go blank, i know you can fix the display however i was wondering if it was possible to swap in a bose head unit from another year Max or even I30. I like the look of the later bose head units and would like to pick one up and install it.

from what i understand, the 5th gen unit is shaped differently and will not fit without some serious modification.

Any year 4th gen 95-99 headunit will work. The 5th gen is shaped different so it will not fit.

You can also use the radio from the Pathfinder or 350Z. I have the Bose from an 02 Pathfinder in mine, it has the in dash 6 pack CD which I always wanted. Check ebay for them.

I was lookin on ebay and they just dont look clean for some reason. Even those pics look like it doesnt fit in right. Looks like it's actually older than the car. Is it just my eyes or the pics? Or does anyone else see the difference?

How much do you want for it, and is it the 2005 pathfinder with the 6pack?

Chris, the RDS works but the disc I had in was really "Old School", RunDMC from 1985 back before they put the recognition info on them. The RDS workks on burnt discs too depending on what speed and format you burned them on. Thanks for posting the pics, BTW in answer to the question, the radio does stick out about an 1/8 of an inch. But honestly imo you'll get used to it in no time because this system is 100% better than the stock Maxima's. One last note, you can also use the 350Z radio but you'll have to dremel the corners to make it fit since that radio is slightly rounded.

Wow...320 is a lot but it looks so nice. Much nicer than stock bose and look like a perfect fit. Maybe I'll check the junkyards for one of those. 05 Pathfinder 6 disc hu right?

You got it. Its much nicer than stock bose as far as sound quality. It has a built in EQ function. For me the Key feature is MP3 Playback. I have about 1100 songs on 6 MP3 cds.

i agree it is weird that the display on the HU doesn't match the display on the climate control and clock.. so i'd personally go with the pathfinder HU as shown above... too bad it doesn't do MP3s, but i'd be plenty happy with the 6 disc changer.

If it's a direct swap I'd be very interested in buying one in the near future. My HU has all the usual problems: no display and the CD player skips. I'm running my XM radio though so as long as the antenna keeps working I'm ok for the time being.

The 350z hu has the same display as the pathfinder. I dont think it would be that big of a difference when it's in the car. As for the clock...im sure you wouldnt care that much. Can always take out the orginal clock after too.

:edit: I take back what I said. I forgot that the lcd lights up green and the numbers stay black. That could be a PITA because nothing else does. If its possible to change the background color that would be cool. I'm doing red led's everywhere in my car so having a red display with the black writing would be kind of cool. I wonder if that's possible...

You said you could fix the display on your blank screen. How do you fix that. Also is the my rear speakers went out and I'm not sure how to fix it. The speakers are getting voltage constantly but no sound. Any suggestions

Sorry to bring this old thread back again.

Will the 2002 pathfinder BOSE HU fit 1999 Max? Is it a direct swap? Maxgig please chime in.

How about the 2005 pathfinder BOSE?

Need to decide what to do. My 99 BOSE HU has "CD err" symptom. Now I have disassembled the HU already. However the PCB look different from all DIY-repair write-up. Although I can find the resistors of same number(s), I don't think re-soldering will fix the problem.

Sending the 99 BOSE to repair will cost about $190 or so plus shipping. It's almost enough to buy a new HU and an adaptor. Mybe BOSE HU of pathfinder is a good alternative solution.
