Definitely not Craftsman. It appeared to be made in china. If it were Craftsman, I would have gotten a replacement for free.

Werd... I've broken some craftsman sockets and breaker bars before. Great that they just replace them (after u fill out some paperwork).

Buying a new axle and getting it rebuilt costs about the same. If your already in there replace the damn thing.

for replacing it. Not worth the headache of replacing the boot when you can get new axles for 60 bucks a piece. I removed the ball joint, but needed a new one either way so I wasnt gentle with it at all.

I agree with your philosophy, the more expensive way to me yields more bang for buck. One, it's a permanent-type repair where it's old one out, new one in. Not everyone is looking for that, some people enjoy working on the car and isn't looking to drive forever. To each his own...

i have been riding on ripped cv boots for like 6 months now. i think 3 out of 4 are ripped. i dont have ANY clicking noises when i turn but axles click when i go straight !

The axles are rebuilt, which can be "questionable". Your boots are just as likely to be torn by debris as someone's w/replaced boot. As for worn bearings, there isn't a significant number of members who have noted destroyed bearings after replacing the boot. In this thread, maybe 1 member had destroyed bearings after replacing only the boot.

i think i have to replace the passenger side axle. a while back the 2 strut bolts came loose causing steering to wiggle after bumps, so i popped off the tire and tightened them back up. but after that the tire was riding on the inner edge and after months now, it wore through the metal mesh and created a big bubble there.
now i changed the tire out and loosened the strut bolts and pushed the wheele hub in a little to make it sit level. the alignment seems good now but after i did this, its making an awful noise.. squeeking creaking constantly when driving slow. when i turn at a certain angle, it stops..
my question is, is this the axle that needs to be replaced?

How is the bearing and hub? Is steering sloppy?

Hey Kingrukus,
What about the step in the motorvate instructions about removing the bolt that holds the "gear indicator switch"? Is this necessary?

Both of my CV boots in front are torn but there is no grease leaking out. I have gotten a couple of quotes from $400+ to replace the boots or the entire axles. Does this sound about right? I saw that someone had quoted a lot lower $ earlier in this post?!?
