Is pulling off the ignition switch that tricky?

My car is about to leave me stranded. Today I had an extra hard time than usual at cranking it.

I have a real good feeling it is the switch, it seems to be loose someplace inside. I could be wrong, it could be the starter motor, but it really feels like it is the switch.

Is it too tricky to take off that switch to check it?
I do not want to end up with a damaged dash board.

Can you brush your teeth? I mean that has nothing to do with the ignition switch, but they are both rated the same on the "toughness" scale.
