Are These BrakePads OK?
How do these brakepads look? The front's one is scarying me a bit, but I'm a car noob and am not sure if this is normal. The only reason I checked was because during a fall checkup the shop listed the estimated break life at ~30% front, ~70% rear. And where I live, not having the brake every half a minute of so of driving is either lucky or well planned, so my brakes get used far more than the mileage would indicate.
Time to get some new pads?
Front, Driverside
Front, Driverside Close-up
Rear, Driverside
Took the photos by sticking the lens part in-between the wheel spokes and setting a manual focus. Not sure what the conventional way is -- removing the wheel entirely? Anyway, hope the shots are good enough for you all to weigh in.
Thanks,
DrCR

I would say that you are still ok with those pads. It's really hard to tell though without seeing the reference point of the noise clip. Take the wheel off, unbolt on of the calipers and pull off the pads. The inboard pads has a metal clip on it and that will make a hell of a lot of noise when it contacts the disc when braking. That's your audible warning that you need new brakes. When your pads wears down to that area, it's time.

Awesome, thanks. My right side was squeaking, so I took photos of the left side lol. I'm assuming then the squeaking was jus that but no more, and the shop 30% life left was a bit on the overly safe side.
That metal bit, I guess it sounds more like a scrape rather than a squeak?
Thanks for the input.

Hey, I'm not the expert lol.
We get snow, well actually ice, only a couple of days a year so exposure to salt is very limited. If there is excess rust, I guess it's because we get a good bit of rain throughout the year.
