Needs pics of tints on our cars....

Im debating whether I want to even bother tinting my car because only the back half are legal in NJ. If you guys can post pics of your cars with just the back 3 tinted it would be much appreciated, black Max's are even better. I know that just the back 3 looks a lot worse on some cars than others.
Thanks!

I'd have to say just leave it. IMO cars don't look good with just the back windows tinted. Save the money and do something good with it.

^^^^^Well if you have PA plates NJ cops won't bother you.

I live in NJ and I got 35% in the front and 5% in the back and I haven't gotten pulled over. It really depends on where in NJ you live. Near Elizabeth/Jersey City/Secaucus/Newark/etc, I see plenty of cars with 5% all around. But if you want to keep things legal, I wouldn't get tint, the back 3 windows look bad IMO.

35% all around should be okay...

Worst case: you get pulled over, remove the tint, show them you removed tint, ticket is thrown out. Then you pay to get new tint.

I got my rear three windows done 5%. Main reason I did it was the backseat headrests and surrounding area started to REALLY dry up since the car sits out in the driveway all summer long. I would have gotten the fronts done as well since it would give it a more flush look but the rules here are the same as yours, can't have any of the fronts tinted, but I drive with the front windows down most of the time so it doesn't really matter plus it keeps the interior MUCH cooler in the summer time.

Jersey has 2 year inspections. Take your car and get a fresh inspection, then go get it tinted. You will have a full 2 years before you have to worry about it. I just peel the fronts off, go get an inspection, then my friend in Edison redoes the tint in a half hour

So you can get your car inspected even if you aren't due for it?

Yeah, what I would do is, use a heat gun and take the sticker off carefully (if its still valid) and put it somewhere safe. Then if you fail, you can just slap your good one back on.

Nice that's a good idea, never thought of it. Have you ever been able to get the sticker off without burning it? I would be afraid of burning it or ripping it.

Yep. I can get them off perfectly every time. What you do is heat the window up outside, get it really warm, then use a brand new blade to grab a corner of the sticker.

I did the same exact thing. It was cheaper to replace my tints than pay the ticket! I have 20% all the way around and they only wanted the front removed. I would deffinitly get all the windows tinted to the same %. It looks really good!

Thanks... I had it about 5 years before I sold it... went through a lot while I had it... I've got a '74 260Z in the garage at the moment in pieces (restoring), and I'll own another TT one day... maybe that one... I keep in touch with its new owner, and I told the guy, if he ever considers selling it, he has to offer it to me first...

My point isnt about being bothered, its about passing inspection. And chances are, you wont pass it, even with 35% all around.

You should get tinted only the 3 back but if you know place where you can pay to pass it 75 every 2 years it's that bad for that kind of thing. How much it is to remove the tint and put it back,is it cheaper ? if yes then do that.

With tinted windows your car will be cooler that's a nice thing even more if your got leather.

Tint

Probably not legal in NJ, or where i live for that matter, 5% all around and a 35% on the windshield.

Sorry, but have to ask a dumb question: why do yall in NJ and the east coast have to put up with vehicle inspections? Us in the midwest only get face time with the feds during emissions.

Back in topic. There's a good point to the question of how good a rear-tint looks. Anyone ever see those 1st gen Lexus SUV's with the metallic tint that looks sharp: but only covers the rear windows, thus looking wack? I'd just get an overall tint , since worst-case you gotta roll down the windows anyways around law enforcement lol...BTW: tint limit in Illinois is something like 15% , but you can get away with 5% depending on where you live and exactly how bored the cops are.

Because passing inspection is a prerequisite to legally driving on the road. Im not about to lose my license for window tints.

I had tints on all my windows except for the windshield. They were pretty dark but I'm not sure what the % was. The guy that had the car before me had them put in. I got pulled over by a NY state trooper and got a ticket for the fronts being too dark. The thing that pissed me off was my windows were rolled all the way down when he pulled me over. He made me roll my windows up after he pulled me over then nailed me. It was a 24 hour fix it ticket and I took them off and didn't get charged. From now on I'll just pay the tickets. It doesn't put points on your license and it's cheaper than re tinting.
