The-95 vs. The-98 ...... wow!
Ive been driving the 95 for 5-6 years now.
Driving it hard too. Cornering. Sliding. Moding. everything normal guys do.
Has 190k now.
The new 98 Maxima blows The 95 out of the water completely. By far...
Everything, Suspension, Handling, Pickup HP, Gas Mileage, just everything.
I you've been furrious at ur 95-96Max before and Hate Maxima's,
Consider Upgrading to a 98-99'. You'd be amazed how different they really feal. Austin Powers:"Tight like a tiger"
I should have kept the Blue 95 Stock and saved the paint, Swapped the mods on the 98 and painted it. But, money talks and bull$hit walks......

Never drove a 98-99....I love the way my 95 rides and handles. I really do not have much interest in switching to a later year Max...of course only if it is for free..or a cheap rice. Indeed...this sounds interesting...I think I will test drive one soon...to see if I can feel the difference you experienced.

Are you sure it wasn't just your 95 Maxima that wasn't maintained? Aside from the cosmetic differences, my 95 Maxima drives the same way my cousin's 98 does. Granted his has much less miles, but as far as handling, acceleration, and gas mileage go, my 95 and his 98 are pretty much the same.

well old warn out parts on a 95<newer not so warn out parts on 98.....simple replacement of a few bushing and injector cleaning and a good tune-up will put the 05 right back up with the 98.....my 98 is way better than my 96 was but its all because if the age if things...if i wanted too i could have my borhter by all kinds of stuff for the 96 he now owns and be tight as my 98

I have a 95 and my dad has a 99 SEL and I prefer my 95 over his. I think mine rides better although his has less miles and is in a little better shape, mine is a 5spd! but I think his might be a little faster..that or he got a head start?

apparently none of you know that the newer 4th gens have a different steering rack. that makes a huge difference. my car is 23702374x better than my fathers. he has more rattles than a... well i dunno. but it sucks. the only things i like are the auto tranny is nice in the city and the stock y pipe sounds much better.

The 98 Maxima was rated @ 215 hp and 185 ft/lbs, so this would make sense.

I am sure it has nothing to do with the 190K miles.....your old car was beat up. Test again when your 98 has 190k, you can't compare an old car to a newer one. Try again with similar mileage A32s, of course the lower mileage car drives better. But HP gains, gas milage, and suspension are just because the 95 was well past it's prime. I would seriously hope the newer lower milage car drives and handles better. I have been in a 99I30 limited that had over 200k, it drove like crap compared to my 96I30 with far less miles.

95 - 99 4th gen, especially engine and trannys, are exactly the same except for:
Early 95's weren't ODBII and didn't have some emissions equipment most 4th gens do.
New bumper reinforcements were introduced in 97.
99's have tighter steering and the later are all equipped with California emissions, most of which are SE-L's.
HP and TQ remain the same throughout the 4th gen models. However the California emissions equipped vehicles are indeed lacking some HP.
Sometimes your "mods" don't really enhance your vehicles performance.
If the 95 is modded and the 98 was basically stock, think again about what your really feeling. I've had so many guys drive my basicaly stock 99 and tell me how much more power and throttle response they feel, only to point out my stock intake ~vrs~ their aftermarket setup, along with the stock wheels ~vrs~ heavy 17's........
