squeaky struts
my struts squeak, any way to fix this? i tried spraying some lithium grease in there, it helped for about a week.. now the squeaking seems to be back .. i know this is because i didn't install strut boots when i put the struts in, but ill get some soon if theres a way to permanantly make the noise stop..
suggestions?

It's probably those rubber tubes that wrap around the coils at the top and bottom. I used that spiral plastic wiring wrap as a replacement, and it holding up pretty well after 3 years. I was able to lift the front end of the car, use a spring compressor to compress the middle of the spring tightly to give access to the ends, and install the wrap. That way I didn't have to take apart the strut and get an alignment.
Make sure the spring is properly seated and clocked when you're done, and avoid having your fingers in between the coils when it's got the compressor on. (If the compressor were to suddenly let go, you'd lose those fingers).

look at your struts through your strut towers. If they are not centered you need new mounts. Mine were shot when I put in my new suspension. It took me 2 weeks of listening to that squeeking before I figured it out.looking at them to see if they are centered is the easiest way to find out.

I used silicone which got rid of the sound for a long time when i had my factory struts on. Not sure if it would work better than lithium grease or not tho.

ok so look at the strut through the spring? or from the top in the engine bay?
they are GR2s. no, i did not replace the mounts, i hope thats all that it is, unless strut mounts are expensive...
the sound is bad sometimes when i take turns also, if that helps any.
thanks for the input fellas keep it coming

NCSU, if it lasted a long time, its def better than lithium grease. the grease only lasted like a week or so..

yea, my thoughts were maybe that he had applied his differently and if these two did have to same effect that maybe the difference in application was the solution

bumping this, requesting more suspension info.
where can i get some OEM strut mounts? autozone good enough? or somewhere else?
the squeaking/rubbing sound happens more and loudest when im taking a turn, slowly.. anyone else agree its my strut mounts?, i didnt replace them when i put the GR2s on...
also, just in the rear, if i have any more than just me in the car, i bottom out big time.. would long-travel mounts (bens susp.) solve this problem?
thanks in advance.

If you brake and you get the squeek when the car leans forward you should buy new strut mounts. If not maybe you need bumpstops.
Not likely your car is going to fall apart because these are not new.

Strut Mounts
Hi there,
I just replaced the rear struts this week. Today I am installing new front struts. Replacing strut mounts and bellows as well.
I got all my gear from "The Parts Geek" http://www.partsgeek.com/
New Mounts are a must, especially if the old ones are 5 years older or more.
Unfortunately I still have the Squeek problem in the right rear strut, so it's not the strut or the mount and all the bolts are tightened to factory spec. Will let you know when I figure out the cause.
Good luck,
