I've read about 'hard' starts, but SQUEEEEL! vroom?

So, i've been encountering this problem more and more often in the past 3 weeks. First off, ill just give a lil medical history on my car. bought it with 130,000 miles on it this summer (95 auto). let my parents take it to pep boys just to get it checked out. everything's fine, just did a (60k)? tune up. Two weeks later, car starts to stall more and more frequently. refused to take it back to pep boys cuz everyone knows ppl that work there are fresh out of votech school, and decided to use fuel system cleaner and wait to see if things got better. problem eventually got really bad and would stall in mid drive... not fun through turns... anyway, took it to the stealership, and $1200 worth of work later, had a new knock sensor, starter, and coolant temp sensor put in w/warranty.
Now... it seems every morning when i start my car, i put the key in the ignition, twist it, and SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL! then it starts. Originally, i thought there was a belt loose, but then i thought, wait, there's no belt on the starter. I cannot figure out what the hell this is, or if its a problem, but some input would be nice. i think my tranny slipped the other day, too... floor'd it and rev'd to 6500 rpm and went nowhere, but that's a whole nother story... i know im a but i checked stickies and other stuff... can't figure it out...

Bring it back to the stealership that did the work.

$1200 for a KS, new starter and a ECTS? You got seriously ripped off.....

Mine did this for like a week....then the starter went out. You don't realize how much you miss that squeal, until you get nothing but a 'click'. Seriously though, have your starter looked at. Had mine rebuilt and back in the same day.

It could be a belt loose or a bad pulley, the belt or pulley doesnt have to be on the starter to amke that sound.

What side is the squeel coming from?
Left (driver) side = probably a bad starter
Right (passenger) side = probably a loose belt

Ouch. The Nissan dealers salivate as they see someone drive in to have a Maxima "serviced"...!

My starter likes to squeal a little just after you left off the key. I get a few little whimper out of it but when it stops spinning, obviously, it goes away.

Almost positive it is the starter and it does sound like it needs to be regreased. I would say do it, but since you just had it put in, take it back and have them fix it. Read up and act like you know what your talking about so they don't f'uck you over again and say it is something else.

I had this problem and it was re-greased 2-3 months ago and it's still doing the same thing. My belts were changed at the same time too.

Maybe this thread can help me out too...
