The bose stereo in my 96 max stopped playing cds. 2 years ago, the display stopped working but i resoldered the smr and fixed that. About 2 months ago, my cd player quit working (cd err), and even after resoldering all smrs on the power dist board in the radio, it still wouldnt work. I used my ohmmeter to check the resistance and each smr specced out perfectly as well.

I had been doing ebay searches on "maxima bose", "maxima stereo", Nissan bose", etc, and each auction was going for $90+ with shipping on top of that.

After checking around here and doing comparisons, i stumbled upon this auction:

I was the only bidder and won the auction for $75.00 total. Item was shipped out on the 24th and i received it today. Fits like it was meant to be in a max. Screw holes lined up perfectly, same electrical connections, etc. In fact, i like it better than my stock 96 bose because the channel buttons are easily reachable from the stick shift and have a curved base to them so you can change the channels by pushing down. Plus, the stereo display is brighter and the face is just cleaner looking in general.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this. Looks like just about any double din nissan stereo will fit right in as long as the connecters look the same.

Im going to put my defective radio on ebay and list exactly what works and doesnt work. It will be under the id "solidape" so don't bid on it if you are going to do the same things I tried to fix. Just trying to watch out for fellow org members.

FYI -that is the same bose HU that was used in the 99 Maximas (and I30s). In fact, the Bose HUs are interchangeable (across varying model years) for Pathfinders, Maximas, I30s, G20s, QX4s, and maybe even Altimas.
