Banging (Poping) While Steering

First off...I know it is not the CV joint, I have heard several of these bad, and that is not it (99% sure).

Within the last few weeks I have noticed banging while I steer. If I turn left it bangs once like every half wheel turn (about 4 solid single bangs per turn). If i go straight then make another left turn it will not bang. However, if I were to make a right turn, it would bang. It's like it needs to be reset by an opposite turn (if this makes any sense...)

Example.... Left (bang) Right (bang) Left(bang) Left (no bang)...

I noticed both gear bellows for the steering have recently broken down. Also, about a year ago I had the front strut bearings replaced because I was experiencing a single heavy bang, thought it might be serious...)

Any thoughts, similar experiences?

You think the struts or springs would make a banging noise while turing?

Mine was doing that when my pass side a-arm bushings had gone bad. The whole arm would wobble when I turned. I replaced with the energy suspension ones and it went away. If not I would check the ball joint. hopefully its not that since acccording to the manual you have to replace the whole a arm. Ill be up that way end of this month give me a call and we can tear it apart.

Word Ba$tard. The noise started right after I replaced the wheel bearing on the front passenger side. When I took everything apart, i did not notice any problems with the ball joint, there is no slop when i jack the car up and play with the wheel....

I am not lowered, everything is stock. I had the dealer do the strut bearings...everything was good for about 6 months...like I said, this happened after I took the whole assembly apart...

Signed,
At a loss...

Well, over the weekend, the noise decided to take a "break". I have not noticed the noise at all...either something gave way, or the problem might not be that serious.

I think you got to make 15 posts to make a thread, you shouldn't jump into someone elses to ask questions. Thats very rude.

if you cut you wheel all the way, and drive foward, and you hear " click.. click.. click.. click.. " its your axle (cv joint)

if while your driving , and go over bumbs or dips, and you hear a cluck once in a while .. its most likely a ball joint.

Check your steering bellows, both sides. If they are torn and your steering have been working all this time, you probably lost all the grease. Your just moments away from loosing your rack n pinion.

if your refering to your axles, thats either becuase you didnt notice them going bad at first, or you rarely make tight turns.. cv joints wear, they dont just all of a sudden go bad overnite. it take a while for them to get as bad as your describing, but when they are REALLY worn, yes they will do that

u would have to take the whole thing apart, meaning: take out tires, brake system,shocks..if u not sure what u doin u really have to take it somewhere to get it looked at and have them do it.. i took mine to the nissan dealership! it's really nothing bad just dont wait too long for u to make actions bout it..

This is my feeling of what it probably is...The bellows are torn, it feels like there is still some grease in there, but probably not enough, coupled with the road grime, that's probably it...Ill probably shoot some more grease in there to help a little. I really don't want to replace the rack and pinion, sounds like a hard job and expensive.
