If I really had a maxima with a RB26DETT, I'd be wraped around a tree somewhere. Skyline = fun .... Maxima = realistic

yup... 30 seconds or so and i try to keep below 3-3 1/2 rpms before it heats up. Engine seems to heat up quickly though.

My max is usually garaged, and as I mentioned before, when I'm going to/from work, I let my Max warm up enough for the needle on the temp gauge to move slightly past "C".

Works for me, but to each one's own

Even on the coldest of days, most engines only need about 20 seconds to get the fluids moving, especially if you're using 100% synthetic oils. Even less if you plug in your engine at night.

Not everybody runs synthetic oil and the vast majority of .orgers do not plug their engine in at night as they don't live in a climate requiring a block heater.

Consequently, even on the coldest of days, most Maxima owners would be well advised to let their engine warm up for considerably more than 20 seconds to get the fluids moving. Perhaps 60 seconds would be advisable, then drive off slowly.

I NEVER WAIT. Once I start the car, I'd back it out of my garage IMMEDIATELY. Then I walk slowly to close the garage door fearing that I might trip and hurt myself. Next, I check the air in all 4 tires carefully and clean my windshield until it looks spotless before I drive off.

I tend to warm up for about 20-30 secs, and when i start driving, i shift under 2500rpm keeping my foot very light on the gas pedal.

Someone once told me that for the maxima's, its best to warm up the car by driving it slow and its not good to warm it up on standstill. is that true?

According to the AMA, you only need a little more than 20 seconds to let your car warm up on a cold day. Mind you, if you're up north here and it's -30C, I let it warm up later cause it sucks driving a freezing car.

Your engine is loud, because your previous Owner dumped some Coffee in there by accident. Please check car fax..

In my Opinion, in summer Time there is no reason to warm up your car, only winter time. When is so cold the oil will not extract as fast, and the engine would work so much harder to push the oil in area that the oil needs to go. At those times I let my remote start do the job. In summer time, i just get into my car when the out side temperature is around 80F and drive off, not too fast.

That Picture is scary I agree.

I make sure the needle is below 1,000 rpm ATLEAST. It is always good to know, that your oil has reached every part of the motor.

Its not a matter of fuel injection or not. Its all about letting the oil circulate through your motor before driving it. Why does BMW limit the rpm on the M5 to 3k until the motor is warm? also, it is not good to drive a cold motor. With my boat the temp runs at 130*, but it takes a while to get there and runs at 90* for some time, I let that big block warm up before putting any kind of strain on it.

Hahahaha Well to answer this threads orignal post, I usually warm my car up until it's below 1k rmp's... then I drive, but I don't let the rpm's get over 2k until it's fully warmed up.

Do you guys really think a cold engine "knows" whether it is being driven or not? Of course not. It takes just as long for oil to reach all parts of the engine whether being driven or not. Hop in, start the car, and go....gently. You can be in third gear without even touching the gas, and warming up the tranny as you warm the engine.

Sorry, bud, but I have a manual transmission and when I'm in 3rd gear I don't go anywhere without touching the gas. I would have thought that someone your age, particularly living where you do with colder weather looming, would give better advice than you have.

What part of warm you car up for a minute or so in cold weather don't you understand? I agree with driving gently, but not the part about start and go.

That is nonsense!

For the past 6 years and 100k of my car's 136k, when it's warm out, I've just got in, gone as fast as I like, and there's been no problems. Routine maintainance is the key.

It's a Maxima, built like a brick $hithouse, so why baby it?

I was referring in my post above, to colder weather and the need to warm the engine up for a minute or so before driving off.

In the summer, I choose to warm my engine up for about 30 seconds and drive off slowly.

You wouldn't go 10K between oil and filter changes on dino oil would you? I suspect you would have no apparent problems with your engine to date if you had, but you likely would down the road.

If you choose to start your car up and go as fast as you like, it is your prerogative, but I personally wouldn't do it.

You say you have no problems at 136K, big deal, report back in in another 100K, please!

Let me reiterate: A cold engine is a cold engine. Whether the car is moving or sitting still, the effect on the engine is the same--as long as you are being sane with the accelerator. If you shift gears at low rpm, you are doing no harm to the engine whatsoever.
